Helen Marie Summers

August 25, 1942 — December 23, 2022

Bountiful, UT

Helen Marie Summers passed away at home in Bountiful, Utah, on Friday, December 23. 2022, surrounded by her family. Helen died from injuries sustained in a fall in Blanding, Utah, after taking gifts to several Indian reservations from the Utah Rotary district.

Helen was born to Evan and Marguerite Pehrson on August 25, 1942, in American Fork, Utah. She had 4 brothers Doug, Jim, Fred, and Mike, and one sister Anita.

Helen grew up in Monticello, Utah, and graduated from Monticello High School. She moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from Stephens-Henager College. While in Salt Lake, she met her husband, Paul Summers. They were married on September 25, 1964. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 7, 1969. They have been married 58 years.

Paul and Helen made their home in Bountiful, Utah, and raised four children Jill, Jim, JoDee, and Anna.

Helen was a secretary for the Soil Conservation Service for many years and later was a human resources analyst for the Bureau of Land Management. She made many lifelong friends at work.

Helen was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Gospel and had strong faith in her Savior Jesus Christ. She and Paul served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Alaska, Anchorage Mission. Helen was a wonderful pianist and organist. She was the ward organist for over 30 years and was the accompanist for the ward choir for over 30 years only interrupted for 18 months while they served their mission.

To know her was to love her. You always knew how much she loved you. She was known for her hugs and kisses. Many people were “adopted” as her children and grandchildren.

Helen was a member of the Bountiful Rotary club and enjoyed serving with her husband taking items to the different Indian reservations in Utah. She loved Southeastern Utah and had a special place in her heart for the Navajo people.

We will miss her Christmas Eve piano playing for our family choir. She was a kind gentle person who had so much love to give.

Helen is survived by her husband Paul and children Jill Everett (Scott), Jim Summers (Pam), JoDee Baker (Frank), and Anna Hendricks (Dave). She is also survived by 18 Grandchildren and 4 1/2 great grandchildren. She also has many nieces and nephews that love her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Doug Pehrson and Jim Pehrson and sister Anita Haddaway.

We would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, CO, for their excellent care and compassion for Helen.
