Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Neighbor passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was reunited with her husband, Blaine, after being separated for almost 21 years after his passing in July of 2005.
Helen was born to John (Jack) Kissel and Mary Elizabeth Donaldson on September 8, 1931, in Ogden, Utah. She was the Seventh of Ten children born to Jack and Mary with 7 half siblings. Helen was raised in Ogden. Helen graduated from Ogden High School in 1949. Helen attended the Dee School of Nursing where she graduated on September 12, 1952.
Blaine and Helen were married on a sunny day on June 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Harold B. Lee. They were blessed with twelve children, raising 11 of them, with one daughter, Donna, stillborn. Blaine and Helen have 49 grandchildren, 97 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Helen loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. She enjoyed going up the canyon and having picnics. She loved camping and fishing in Yellowstone and playing games. Helen had a spicy and sassy personality. Her family knew her as a terrible cheater at cards but a close friend said she would never cheat and was as pure as the driven snow. Even her cheating caused great joy for her children and grandchildren.
Helen was a Labor and Delivery Nurse at South Davis Hospital and then at Lakeview Hospital once it was built. She helped hundreds if not thousands of women safely bring their babies into this world. Through her ministering efforts she saved many women and babies from death. During her time as a nurse she taught CNA’s and pre-natal classes with her sister Joan. She became the Director of the Women’s Care Unit in 1983 and did that until she retired in 1993.
Even after she retired she continued to serve many people in her neighborhood and community. Blaine and Helen served a mission to Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1995 to 1996 serving the Navajo people.
Helen leaves behind eleven children David (Karen) Bingham, Lori (Skip) Loesch, Mary Jo (Michael) Larson, Scott (Karen) Bingham, Helen (Don) Thomas, Catherine (Terry) Smith, Lee (Deanna) Bingham, Linda Scarlet, Diane (Jason) North, Joseph (Sharon) Bingham, and Rebecca (Paul) Poulsen. She is also survived by her three siblings Paul, Barbara and Carol.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Donna, grandson Jacom, parents and many siblings.
