Harvey E. Price

Apr 10, 1938 — Jul 15, 2026

Woods Cross, UT

Dr. Harvey E. Price, educator, husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong student of the natural world, passed away, surrounded by many of his loved ones, on July 15, 2026, at the age of 88.

Harvey was born on April 10, 1938, in Idaho to Harvey L. and Gladys E. Price. He was the oldest of seven children. As a young man, he served a mission in the Northwestern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, before serving his country in the United States Army.

Harvey earned his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and PhD in Biology from the University of Utah. He often joked that he received his “three degrees of glory” from the University of Utah – a joke that perfectly reflected his quick wit and sense of humor.

On October 12, 1961, Harvey married the love of his life, Cheryl Ann Earnshaw, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they built a loving family and shared 47 wonderful years until Cheryl’s passing.

Harvey dedicated nearly 40 years to education in the Davis County School District, where he taught junior high science, mathematics, and even one of his favorite subjects – good manners. He also coached wrestling and track, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. Above all, he believed that learning never ended and encouraged others to keep expanding their minds throughout life.

Harvey was a voracious reader, always eager to learn something new. Even after macular degeneration limited his ability to read, his curiosity about the world never diminished. He had a particular passion for rocks and geology, collecting specimens and delighting in explaining how they were formed and what type of rock they were.

He also had a great appreciation for the outdoors and believed nature had a remarkable ability to restore the soul. Long before it became commonplace, Harvey practiced recycling, reusing, and repurposing whatever he could. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, bicycling, riding motorcycles, and gardening. Every summer he proudly grew corn in his garden and delighted in sharing the harvest with family, friends, and neighbors.

Harvey was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his “Dad” jokes, and his unwavering work ethic. He taught his children and grandchildren to work hard, stay curious, appreciate the beauty of the world around them, and care for the earth.

Harvey is survived by his children Kurt (Kristin), David (Lisa), and Leslie (Karen); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with his tenth great-grandchild expected in the coming weeks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl, and his sister, Gae.

In accordance with Harvey’s wishes, no public funeral services will be held. The family will celebrate his life privately.

To honor Harvey’s memory, enjoy a good meal with your family, read a book, recycle something, tell a classic “Dad” joke, or perform an act of service for someone in need.

We’ll miss you, Dad. Give ‘em hell on the other side.
