Harold Roland Derricott

December 28, 1945 — May 9, 2025

Harold Roland Derricott, sweetheart, father, grandfather passed peacefully from this life to the next on May 9, 2025. His family was with him and his dear wife Nancy Derricott (nee Stoddard) held his hand.

His parents, Garnet Theodora Derricott (nee Rasmussen) and Harold Derricott moved to Richland, Washington with their daughter Elise (Richards) during World War II like so many others. The wartime economy provided plentiful employment. His father worked at Hanford Engineer Works and his mother was a nurse. They gave birth to Harold Roland Derricott on December 28, 1945. To everyone who didn't call him dad, he was Roley.

Roley lived the next twenty years in Richland graduating from Columbia High School in 1964. He served a mission in the New England States where his mission president was Boyd K. Packer. He loved the Savior and always read the scriptures. Roley returned west to earn a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at Brigham Young University. There, he met the love of his life Nancy Stoddard of Pendleton Oregon. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 18, 1970.

In 1972, he completed a year of training at Holy Cross Hospital, enabling him to begin his career as a medical technologist. He earned a Master of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Utah in 1982. After several years at Holy Cross, he moved to laboratory management with Intermountain Health Care (IHC) at LDS Hospital. Eventually, he directed all IHC laboratories in the Salt Lake Region. He oversaw the consolidation of all laboratory operations with IHC in their newly constructed hospital in Murray, Utah. He loved his co-workers and his work. He retired from IHC in 2012.

Roley was always anxiously engaged in his projects. He loved fixing and maintaining cars, especially his beloved 1965 Mustang—until his family grew out of it. He was the handiest of handymen. He loved building cabinets, drawers, shelves and anything else that would give him an excuse to use his tools. He took to yard care and house maintenance with the same enthusiasm. Roley whiled away every Saturday with projects and only occasionally a nap. Even when he was in his vacation house in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, he spent more time working than relaxing. Somehow, he also kept a vigorous reading habit even beyond the Standard Works. Of course, everyone who knew him will recall how much he loved to socialize whenever he had the chance. He interacted so pleasantly and sincerely with everyone he met.

He loved his family most of all and cherished every minute he was able to spend with them. Whatever else he was doing, he wanted to be with his family. His parents, sister, and brother-in-law, Dale Richards, precede him in death. Roley's children are: Amy (Scott) Campbell of Bonney Lake, Washington; Mark Roland Derricott (Christa Bassett Ross) of Kingston, Washington; David Michael (Elisabeth) Derricott of Layton, Utah; Camie Derricott of Salt Lake City, Utah. Amy's children are: Alyssa, Zachary, and Porter Campbell. David's daughter, Abigail, is Roley's youngest grandchild.

The family wishes to send their deepest gratitude, love, and appreciation to everyone at the Villas at Baer Creek. Their ceaseless care and compassion sustained and comforted Roley and always reassured his family.
