Grant Edward Anderson

October 13, 1938 — September 18, 2023

On September 18, 2023, Grant Edward Anderson, 84, departed peacefully while surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren after his sixth bought of cancer. Grant was born on October 13, 1938, to Marjorie B. and Grant L. Anderson in Long Beach, California. Grant served his mission in Sweden and was one of the last missionaries to cross the Atlantic by ship. Grant married his dear Diane Christensen on November 9, 1962, in the Los Angeles Temple. After nearly 61 years of marriage, Grant’s love for Diane could still fill the room.

Grant is survived by his wife, Diane; children, Dawn Anderson Cox, Grant Christian Anderson (Sacha), and Brooke Anderson Nichols (Joel); and 9 grandchildren, Chloe, AJ, Mazie, Ella, Sadie, Kate, Ian, Luke, and Simon. Grant’s love of the outdoors was passed onto his children and grandchildren, spending many summers teaching his grandchildren to swim and taking them on hikes. Grant was known to have perfect pitch and could play any song on the piano after hearing it only once. He was able to use this talent to play piano at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the Assembly Hall on Temple Square for several years.

Also, using his love for music, Grant was the director for countless choirs over the span of decades. For a few years at Christmastime, he joined forces with the Calvary Baptist Church, and provided the community with an incredible multi-faith Christmas choir program.

Grant loved his community and showed this in many ways. He was the ultimate scout master and inspirational football coach. He had a natural ability to make everyone feel included, challenged and a needed part of any team. Because of Grant’s efforts and willingness to serve, he forged life-long friendships with the kids until the end.
