Gloria Mae Unger Oaks, a cherished matriarch and devoted servant of her community, passed away from natural causes on Monday July 7th, 2025. Born on October 21, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Arthur and Annabel Unger, Gloria faced the loss of her father at the tender age of 11. Her mother relocated the family to Provo, Utah, where her mother took on the role of dorm mother at Brigham Young University. Soon after she became acquainted with the love of her life Robert Charles Oaks.
Gloria attended Brigham Young High School. Bob and Gloria dated through high school and college the couple married on June 10, 1959, following Robert's graduation from the United States Air Force Academy. Their journey together took them around the globe on various Air Force assignments, including Japan, Italy, Germany, and numerous locations across the United States. During their life together they moved 31 times. Gloria loved most being wherever Bob was and was happy to move to new locations and make new friends.
As a proud mother, Gloria welcomed six children into the world: four sons and two daughters. She took immense joy in being a grandmother to 18 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 8 great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them.
Throughout her life, Gloria was actively involved in her church, holding various callings in Primary and Relief Society. Her unwavering faith and strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ were evident in her everyday actions. She also served in South Africa as an area leader and contributed her talents in Germany, leaving a lasting impact on those she served.
Gloria's legacy of love, faith, and service will forever be cherished by her family and friends. Gloria will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband; Robert and their children, Perry (Marci), Barton (Laurel), Keri Ann, Derek (Preot), Brock, and Kristie; and 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Patsy Daniels, Vera Corbett, and her grandson Andrew Oaks.
Special thanks to the many care givers, Jamie Medina, Jen Eyring, Abby Eyring and Vivian Oaks whose care & assistance was invaluable and loved by Gloria and her family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Foxhill Ward chapel located at 200 Eagle Ridge Drive, North Salt Lake, Utah. Public viewings will be held at the same location on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and prior to the funeral service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. where loved ones will gather to honor her remarkable life.
Interment will be on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park located at 17111 South Camp Williams Road (1700 West), Bluffdale, Utah.
Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin about 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
