1932 Jerry 2022

Gerald Clark Ipsen

May 30, 1932 — September 13, 2022

Bountiful UT- On a rainy Tuesday morning, Jerry quietly slipped away surrounded by family to be reunited with his loving wife of 62 years. Dad fought a long and valiant battle with CHF.

He was born in Salt Lake City to Rulon and Belva Ipsen on May 30, 1932. He had four brothers and three sisters. He attended East High School and the University of Utah before entering the United States Air Force. He was a crewmember on the B-29 and B-36 bombers during the Korean War. He loved to talk about his experiences flying.

He married the love of his life Lynne Haddow on June 15, 1955. Together they raised an amazing son, that brought many happy days mixed with some not so easy ones at times. Dad was very involved in sports, whether it was coaching his son’s teams or the president of the local baseball league. He loved to be involved. He was an avid basketball player and played every morning at 5:30 before heading to work.

Dad retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1987 after 3+ decades holding many different positions there. His favorite was the Railroad Auction house, where he was the Auctioneer. He would mesmerize all the local kids with his auctioneering calls. We never could understand how he could talk so fast.

After retirement, he worked as an Event Coordinator for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and as an Usher on Temple Square. There he met some amazing friends that have kept in touch with him over the years. He would often work 16-hour days there but never complained, and loved every minute of it.

Jerry leaves behind a son Scott (Jamie) Ipsen and three awesome grandkids, Ryker, Jarren (JJ) and Sayler. All his pride and joy. And five siblings Glen (Dawn) Ipsen, Carol Pollei, Alvin (Susan) Ipsen, Louise Shields, and David (Patty) Ipsen. He was preceded in death by a brother Dean Ipsen and a sister Beverly Beard.
