Gerald “Jerry” Floyd Daughtrey, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Bountiful, Utah, on February 14, 2026, at age 90, surrounded by family.
Jerry had a way of filling a room. With quick wit and a perfectly timed story, he left people laughing and feeling welcome.
Born in 1935 in Santa Maria, California, to Marie and Floyd Daughtrey, Jerry graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School in 1952, where he played football. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, including training at Naval Air Station Glynco in Brunswick, Georgia, and service aboard the USS Wasp. He received the Good Conduct Medal for his service. His years in the Navy shaped his steady leadership and sparked a lifelong connection to aviation.
After the Navy, Jerry attended San Jose College. He worked in procurement for major aerospace companies, including Lockheed Missiles and Space. He later worked in commercial real estate, where his confidence and ability to connect with others served him well.
In his early years, he married Nancy and had two sons. Though the marriage later ended, he remained devoted to his children.
In 1974, Jerry joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a defining moment in his life. His faith led him to Bountiful, Utah, where he met Toni at a church singles dance. They married on May 25, 1980, and he joyfully became a father to her four daughters, embracing their beautifully blended family. Jerry and Toni were later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple. Together, they built a home in Farmington, where they lived for over 40 years. Jerry devotedly cared for Toni until the end of his life, a quiet reflection of the love and commitment they shared.
Jerry had a suitcase never too far from the door. He and Toni treasured visiting Edinburgh, Scotland, and taking family vacations to Gold Beach, Oregon. He also cherished backpacking through Italy (at age 83) with his daughter and granddaughter—never passing up a chance for gelato. In fact, he never met a gelato flavor he didn’t like!
He found joy in cooking (especially coq au vin and chicken Marsala), meeting new people, and fly fishing on Henry’s Fork of the Snake River in Idaho and in Paradise, Utah. As a convert, he held a strong testimony and long hoped to serve a senior couple mission.
He will be remembered for his humor, curiosity, steadfast faith, and enduring love for his family, and will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Jerry is survived by his sweetheart, Toni; his four children: Dave Daughtrey (Gabriela), Lisa Zollinger (David), Michelle Cox (Dan), and Robin Sjostrom (Danen); 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Daughtrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; a son, Dan; and a daughter, Joleen.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Creekside Assisted Living and A-Plus Hospice for the kindness, dignity, and compassion they showed Jerry in his final days.
He will be laid to rest at Farmington Cemetery during a private family graveside service. A celebration of life gathering will be held in the spring. For more details, please email the family at jerryd.celebration@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
