George Call Benedict, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at age 87 on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Bountiful after a short illness. George was born to George Wallace Benedict and Clara M. Huff Benedict in Thistle, Utah, on April 18, 1917. He attended schools in Soldier Summit, Utah, and Bartow, Georgia, and graduated from high school at Atascadero, California. He lived most of his youth with his grandmother, Lena Benedict. Before his marriage, he worked as a telegrapher for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and as a fireman for the Western Pacific Railroad. He spent most of his married life as a salesman for different auto parts companies, the last being Felt Auto Parts for more than 20 years. He married Marian Meyers on August 5, 1944. He was sealed to his wife and children in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 8, 1957. His family was the great joy of his life. He is survived by his wife, Marian; his children, JoAnn Brierley Kent, Sally Benedict, and George E. Benedict Julie; 8 grandchildren: Jaymie Reynolds Jeremy, K.C. Brierley; Samuel Brierley Amie, Quinn Brierley Shalon, Sean Brierley, Laurie Brierley, Brad Benedict and TJ Benedict; 5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Freida Tonge; and his sister-in-law, Gayle Martin. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 12:00 noon at Val Verda Stake Center, 2651 South 500 West. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Tuesday morning from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
