Gary Merrill Walker was born in Malad, Idaho, and raised in southeast Idaho, primarily in Blackfoot. He graduated from Blackfoot High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball while also serving in student government and as yearbook editor.
He attended Idaho State University, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Condie. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple and built a life centered on faith, love, and family. Together they were blessed with four children, 17 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren, who brought Gary immense joy.
Gary enjoyed a successful career in sales management and as the owner of his own distributorship, with opportunities to live in Idaho, Utah, California, and Kansas. He and Sandra loved traveling together and creating lifelong memories. Gary was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, golf, and fishing. He especially loved coaching his sons, cheering on his children and grandchildren, and sharing stories from his own athletic days. His grandchildren treasured Grandpa's playful teasing, jokes, and the annual holiday "ditty" invitations he wrote for family gatherings.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gary faithfully served in many callings. He especially cherished home teaching with each of his sons as his companion. Later, he and Sandra served together as Church service missionaries at the Museum of Church History and Art and the St. George Visitors' Center.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill and May Walker; his son, Mitchell Kent Walker; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Walker; and his great-granddaughter, Skylar Kenzie Bowen.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his children, Merrill (Shannan) Walker, Mike (Lesley) Walker, and Meggan W. Nichols; his sister, Janeece Fields; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many dear friends.
Gary will be remembered for his unwavering faith, deep love of family, generous heart, quick wit, and lifetime of service. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the enduring example of faith, integrity, and love he leaves behind.
