Gary Brown Lee

October 19, 1962 — November 24, 2024

North Salt Lake, UT

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on November 24, 2024, at the age of 62 in his home surrounded by loved ones after a 14-month battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma).

Gary Brown Lee was born on October 19, 1962, in Tooele, Utah, to Gordon Howard Lee and Darlene Brown Lee. He was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple to Carolyn Jones on July 7, 1989.

He was born and raised in Tooele, Utah, where he shadowed his dad on locksmith jobs and worked with his mom on merit badges for his Eagle Scout award. He also loved spending time in the garden with his grandparents, running distance in track and field, and playing drums with his sisters as well as in the Tooele High School band.

Gary served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Melbourne, Australia. After returning from his mission, he attended Utah State University to finish his Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems where he met some of his lifelong friends. He worked at EDS in Detroit, as a civilian for the Air Force, Defense Depot Ogden, American Stores/Albertsons, Tomax, and was most recently working for the Church as a Senior Business Analyst.

He loved photography, trains, fire trucks, and history. Gary also loved to travel. He went to many places such as Washington D.C. with the high school band and again with Carolyn recently, Seattle, Florida, New York, Hawaii, and various places for work including Jamaica and California. He loved to plan trips that included visiting temples and lighthouses in places like New York, Maine, California, Oregon, Florida and North Carolina.

Gary’s church service brought a lot of experience and friendship to him over the years. He served as a Ward Clerk, Counselor in a Bishopric, Stake Young Men’s Secretary, Stake Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, and Area Authority Executive Secretary. He was very organized and loved using his talents to serve those around him. His testimony was a guiding light in how he viewed the world and in the decisions he made.

Gary met Carolyn in a singles ward in Bountiful, Utah, and they quickly fell in love. They were married and a few years later settled in Kaysville, Utah, where they lived for 23 years. They built a home and life that they loved together where they made many friends in the neighborhood and in connection with their children’s activities. In 2015 they moved to North Salt Lake, Utah, and enjoyed building new friendships there as well.

The most important thing to Gary was his family. Gary was close to both sides of his family growing up and has many memories of reunions and holidays spent with them. With his own family it was important to carry on family traditions, experience new places, and spend quality time together. He was always intentional with how he spent his time. Gary and Carolyn loved attending events for their kids and grandkids even if it meant long drives and hotel stays. He loved to support them in the things that were important to them. His children and grandchildren brought him immense joy.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Jones Lee; daughter Melissa Jenny Lee Weight (Justin) of Layton, UT; sons Nathan Gary Lee (Brianna) of Centerville, UT; and Ryan Gordon Lee (McKenzie) of Nibley, UT. Grandchildren include Brynne, Katelyn, Hailey, Laura, and Whitney Weight; Gracie, Jackson, and Hannah Lee; and Adeline, Brooklynn, and Saige Lee. He is also survived by his sisters Diane Priday (Bruce), and Sharon Stokes (David), brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and family who love him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, a nephew, nieces, and his father- and mother-in-law Earl and Helen Jones.
