Fred passed away peacefully in Bountiful, Utah, on February 21, 2024, surrounded by family. Fred was born to DeVaughn Jones and Alene Hansen Jones in 1947 in Salt Lake City. He grew up in Farmington with his loving family, consisting of his brother David and his older sister Catherine. As a teenager, Fred attended Davis High School in Kaysville, and worked summers at Lagoon. During this time, he met and fell in love with his sweetheart Barbara Cullimore, whom he later married in 1969. Fred and Barbara Jones spent nearly 55 years together in Bountiful, Utah, and were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Fred attended the University of Utah where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He graduated in Economics with Maga Cum Laude honors. Fred had a lifelong love for the University of Utah sports, was a member of the Crimson Club, enjoying season tickets to the football and basketball games with his family for over 50 years, including traveling to many championship and bowl games.
Fred had a gift for precision and numbers, which led him to a career in the financial markets.
Early in his career he worked in the State Treasurer’s Office, he was responsible for investing taxpayer dollars for the State of Utah. He later worked for Merrill Lynch Capital Markets and was Vice President of Institutional Sales and finished his career at George K Baum and Co. as Senior Vice President of Institutional Sales. He often spoke of his friendships and loved those he worked with.
Fred was a hardworking man and found great satisfaction in his job. He loved to go to work. He was fascinated to watch the ebbs and flows of the market cycles and would frequently say that he couldn’t wait to get to work in the morning to see what would happen next.
One of Fred’s favorite pastimes was spending time with his family up at Bear Lake at a cabin that he helped his father build in 1970. Countless hours were spent doing chores, boating, and sitting around the campfire with those he loved. Fred loved to sail with his family and spent much time on Bear Lake and sailing the Pacific Ocean out of Newport Harbor.
Much happiness was found in their beloved children: Brandon Fredric Jones (Nancy), Jamison Cullimore Jones (Melissa), and Jessica Lynne Jones. They were later blessed with six grandchildren that gave him so much joy! Fred is survived by his wife Barbara, and his dedicated children Brandon (Nancy), Jamison (Melissa) and Jessica, and his loving Grandchildren: Katie, Dallin, Ethan, Nathan, Malynn and Colton. He is also survived by his brother David.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, DeVaughn Jones and Alene Hansen Jones, and his sister Catherine Jones Pritchett.
The family appreciates his caretakers and support staff who loved and cared so sweetly for him over the last 5 years: Gabby, Celika, MJ and Heidi all helped to make such a difference in Fred’s life. They will forever have a place in our hearts for their loving care and support.
The family appreciates the tender care, support, and condolences during this difficult time, and will cherish memories shared through the online guestbook on this obituary page.
