Florence Iverson

May 17, 1920 — August 5, 2014

Florence Mae Reed Iverson, daughter of Perry Jones Reed and Alice Kirby Reed, was born May 17, 1920 at their home in Woods Cross Utah. Florence quietly slipped away Aug. 5, 2014, at the age of 94 years. Florence was raised and attended school in Bountiful and then rode the Bamberger Train the 15 miles from Bountiful to Kaysville to attend Davis High School. Florence enjoyed high school very much and always took it seriously and strove to earn good grades, with encouragement from her parents. Florence graduated in May of 1938, in the middle of the great depression. With jobs sparse and unable to find work Florence began to attend LDS Business College learning typing and shorthand in the evenings. After a year there she gained her first employment at the Utah State Capital with the Educational Survey Committee which led to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, which she really enjoyed and learned a great deal. In 1948 Florence decided to continue her education and registered at the University of Utah to study secondary education. After graduating in 1951 she was fortunate to obtain a teaching position at the new Bountiful High School, teaching all the typewriting classes. While at the University of Utah Florence met and started dating Evan Iverson. They were married during Christmas vacation time, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple Dec. 26, 1952. They remained in Bountiful until 1955 when they moved to Westwood California when Evan obtained a position at UCLA. Later moving to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, University of Oregon in Eugene, then spending several years in Olympia Washington. Everywhere they went she worked hard and stayed busy serving others through the LDS Church, Serving in many callings. She made many close and dear friends. While in Olympia Florence and her friends learned Tole painting and Norwegian Rosemaling. We enjoy the beautiful works of art Florence created during that time. In 1998 while visiting her brother Wallace and his wife Naomi, Florence and Evan decided to return to Bountiful to be closer to family where they enjoyed their visits immensely. Florence spent her last few years at Heritage Place in Bountiful, and we would like to thank all those who gave her such loving care.
A graveside service will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery, Friday Aug. 8, 2014 at 11:00 am.
