Ferris Holmes, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026 in Denver, Colorado. Clearfield, Utah had been his home for the past twenty five years before moving to Denver in November to be closer to his children.
Ferris was born in Montpelier, Idaho on November 18, 1935 to Oliver Wendell and Janette Hall Holmes. He was the eleventh of twelve children, so he was blessed to be surrounded by siblings, nieces and nephews throughout his childhood.
After graduating from Montpelier High School, Ferris moved to Great Falls, Montana for work, where he met and married Shirley Remsh and together they had four children. With his outgoing personality and natural gift for connecting with others, Ferris built a successful career as a salesman and regional manager with Prudential Insurance.
All who were lucky enough to know Ferris can attest to his light-hearted nature, beautiful smile, and unwavering devotion to his family. Spending time with his family was always Ferris’s highest priority. To create a place where family could gather, he built a cabin on Canyon Ferry Reservoir, fondly known as Holmes Haven, where five generations have made cherished memories together. The wheels in is brain were always turning, planning new projects and improvements, a reflection of his energy and enthusiasm for life.
Ferris was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he faithfully served in many callings, including several bishoprics. His faith and service were central to his life.
Ferris loved to dance, often winning jitterbug contests as a young man. It was at a dance that he met Patricia (Patty) Brown Lee and married her in August of 1999. Ferris’s family grew and so did his joy. They shared ten wonderful years together in Clearfield until Patty’s passing in 2010.
Ferris is survived by his children: Carrie Almanzar (Narciso), Camela Brinegar (Tom), Ferris John Holmes (Constance), and Marnie Call (Dan). He will be dearly missed by his six grandchildren: Brady Brinegar, Madisen Lucas Treu (Chloe), Eric Almanzar, Bowen Call, Bennett Call and Brody Call; and his two great grandchildren: Brooklynn Brinegar and Donny Lucas Treu.
In addition to his biological family, Ferris deeply loved his children by marriage: Shauna Cameron, Debbi Young (David), Tricia Jouvin (Brandon), Michael Lee (Zarai), Lance Zanto (Lynn), Lori King, and Becky Bannon (Jolene). He was abundantly blessed with eleven additional grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Since Ferris was the last survivor of his siblings, he was also able to be a surrogate father/grandfather to many loved nieces and nephews.
Ferris’s legacy of love, faith, laughter, and devotion to family will live on through those who were blessed to know him and the generations to come.
Ferris’s funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Clearfield Stake South Chapel, 2150 S. 800 E. Clearfield, where a viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Ferris will be interred at Bountiful City Cemetery.
