May 16, 1952 – May 27, 2025. Farrel Lewis, our beloved husband, dad, papa and friend was suddenly taken from us on May 27, 2025 after complications from a recent heart attack.
Farrel was born on May 16, 1952 to Vaughn R. Lewis and Ora Letha Roche in Tremonton, Utah. He grew up in Thatcher, Utah where he learned the value of hard work and dedication to everything he took on. The stories he told of his childhood with a house full of brothers the two sisters they tortured always brought a smile to our faces. He graduated from Bear River High school in 1970. There he earned the name of Snapper playing center for the football team. His in laws later morphed that name into Scooper. Farrel enlisted in the National Guard right after high school. He later attended Weber State University.
Farrel married his high school sweetheart and forever best friend Beckie Housley in 1972. They were just little kids that ended up spending 55 years together and 53 years of marriage. They built a beautiful family with their 3 children and 10 grandchildren. On his passing we wondered what it was like to reunite with his father in law Don Housley. Don didn’t let many in his circle, but he adored Farrel, and he promised him he would always take care of Beckie, a promise he always kept.
Farrel was a hero to so many, not only his children, and grandchildren, but the community and all the youth and friends he had an impact on. He spent years devoting himself to coaching soccer and baseball/softball for both Jeremy and Jenny. He founded at built the Wasatch Soccer Club, all of it’s teams and yearly tournaments where masterfully planned from our dining room table. In the words of one of his former players he was “tough on the field but a teddy bear off, he always made me feel so loved.” A talent no doubt passed on to his son Jeremy who built upon the things he started as not only a coach but a teacher.
Farrel was the kind of guy that was always putting others above himself. We often wondered if he even knew the word “NO” because he was the first person to jump in when anyone needed his help. There were many winters that he would bring tractors home from MESCO, the business he owned with his brother Del and dig out the mailboxes of the entire street. He spent countless summers building and improving roads at Hardware Park, his mountain home away from home. A forever Ute fan, Farrel was a significant contributor to programs at the University of Utah.
If you needed anything fixed, or built he was your guy. We teased him the he thought he knew everything, but to us he always did. He built his own home from the ground up, a mountain cabin, and assisted in countless remodels of his kids homes and projects in their yards. Any project we needed done, or advice we needed dad was always there. We all grew up thinking no one could do it better than dad, and we were right. This is something we already miss. His handywork and talents will live on forever in those treasures. His yard was a wonder for all to behold, and talent his daughters will always strive to carry on for him.
Farrel had a simple and powerful testimony of his savior Jesus Christ. He was a life long member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in several capacities but he thoroughly enjoyed serving with the youth in the later years of his life. His life was a perfect example of how He would want us to live, putting others first, and giving everything you have to the people you love. He was quiet and never boastful, a humble farm kid who never forgot where he came from. Upon is death we found a small box with this hand written quote, a treasure he left for us. “I take nothing with me but my name and my honor. I leave nothing but my legacy and my love. I was Farrel Lewis” Nothing could sum up his 73 year legacy more perfectly. We are so proud he was our husband, our dad and our papa. We could not have been luckier.
Farrel is survived by his loving wife Beckie, his children Jill, Jeremy and Jenny, their spouses Paul, Cathy and Kirk. 10 amazing grandchildren who everyone he made feel special: Trace, Tate, Jed, Tatem, Quade, Troy, Griffin, Irene, Harper and Ally. He is also survived by his childhood best friends his brothers Val, Lanny and his sister Gloria. His older brother Del, his older sister Lavon, his mom and dad along with his mother and father in law and brother in law Alan were no doubt amongst the first for welcome him home.
The family will welcome all who would like to pay respects to Farrel with visitation on Thursday June 5th from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1941 North Main Street Farmington, Utah. A graveside service will be held on Friday June 6th at the Kaysville cemetery.
