Elwood Laurie Knobel

March 21, 1929 — October 21, 2021

Elwood Laurie Knobel, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2021.

He was born on March 21, 1929, in Pacific, MO to Joseph Laurie and Evelyn Lisette Alt Knobel.  At a young age he was fascinated by the sciences and found a particular interest in Chemistry.  After receiving his diploma at Pacific High School in 1947, he was accepted into Rolla College of Engineering.  He received his graduate degree in Chemical Engineering.

Throughout his life he was able to travel the world seeing great sights and meeting new people.  Even though he was cranky he was full of snarky responses and dry humor.  He was active in the Gateway Masonic Lodge, where he was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason.  He was also a member of the El Kailah Shriners of Salt Lake City.

Surviving are his children, Keith (Mae) Knobel, Ken(Julie) Knobel, David Knobel, Van Tran, Duc(Yocelin) Tran, Thu-Van Zimmer, Joseph Tran, Maria(Robert) Sam, Linda (Glen) Kingston and Laurie(Jonathan) Allen and grandchildren, Kayne, Kaleb, Kira, Kourtni, Kameron, Kassidy, Konner, Alexis, Ella, Cami, Chrissy, Luke, Nikole, Jericho, Ariella, Asher, Erica, Harley, Porschea, Sydney, Zack, JordanAnne, Emma, Clark and 23 Great grandchildren.,

He also was preceded in death by his daughter Karen (Mike) Payne.

At Elwood’s request, his body will be donated to the University of Utah for the advancement of science.  A memorial will be held Wednesday October 27, 2021, 5 pm at 28 W. Mutton Hollow Rd. Kaysville Utah 81037.
