Ellie (Eloise) Petersen Miller

April 6, 1938 — December 5, 2025

On 6 April 1938, springtime in her beloved Cache Valley, Ellie Petersen Miller was born to Leland and Thelma Petersen. She and her twin sister made up the middle of nine children. Ellie loved growing up in Hyrum, and visited often throughout her life. Along with all eight of her siblings, Ellie attended Utah State University (at one point with five siblings attending together). She loved her time in college, where she was a Songleader, a Cheerleader, and an Aggiette. Ellie was a member of Alpha Chi throughout college, and earned a BS in Physical Education. She taught in schools along Utah's Wasatch Front for a decade, and was beloved by students. Ellie was passionate about reading and was part of a book club for more than forty years.

Ellie met George Miller while living in Provo, Utah, and they married on 12 July 1967. Their first daughter arrived a year later, followed by four more. The family stayed in Utah, eventually building a home in Bountiful where they have lived for 48 years. The focus and passion of Ellie’s life was home and family. And even through the struggles life brought her way, she brought beauty and passion and compassion to the spaces and people around her.

Ellie was a lifelong, devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous capacities in the church throughout her life, her favorite of which was Activity Days leader. For several years she volunteered as a tour guide at the LDS General Conference Center.

After suffering a stroke two years ago, Ellie was the recipient of deeply loving care from her amazing team of hospice providers and CNAs, particularly Norma Saldano, Monica Schick, Aneth Centeno, Annalisa Aho, Monica Almoron, and Margaret Bennion, from her sister Mary visited almost daily, from her children and grandchildren and siblings who came from near and far, and especially from her devoted husband George, who was rarely away from her side. It was beautiful to watch Ellie be loved with the kind of loyalty and dedication she offered to others her whole life. Ellie always signed notes to family with “Love and Loyalty,” and gave and received both until the very end.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Thelma, by brothers Wally and David, and by her great-granddaughter Willow. She is survived by her siblings Mary Cahoon (Richard), Eleanor Pocock (Tom), Rod (Chyrl), Kathryn Colton (Kent), Jerry (LeAnn), and Marty Bennett (Robert); by her husband George; by her children Steffanie Robinson (Ash), Nikki Deforge (Alexis), Allyson Smith (Bryan), Melissa Miller (Dixon), and Zanny Perrino (Jonathan); and by nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
