Elaine Smith Oman

September 18, 1936 — March 5, 2023

Elaine Smith Oman passed away March 5, 2023 in the home of her daughter Tiffany in Talmage, UT.  Elaine was born September 18, 1936 in Brigham City, Utah to Harry I. Smith and Birdie Juanita Conley Smith.  She was named Ada Elaine but she never liked the name Ada and wanted to be known as Elaine.  As a youth she liked to ride horses and was involved in marching with the school bands and baton twirling.

She married Glenn C. Oman on November 2, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple.  In the next three years they had 3 sons born.  They lived in Woods Cross until 1963 and then the next four years they lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Great Falls, Montana, Murray, Utah, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and then finally settled in Centerville, Utah.  Her husband Glenn was moved around working on the ICBM command and control centers and then a power plant in Louisiana.  Dad was a proud member of the IBEW, and received his 60 year membership recognition, working on many large commercial and industrial projects throughout the Wasatch Front, eventually becoming a Union Electrical Contractor himself.

While living in Great Falls, a daughter was born, which after 3 sons, was what she had always hoped for.  Mom and Dad were involved in bowling leagues.  They supported their sons in Little League baseball every summer going to almost all of the games and all the athletic events in Jr. High and High School that their sons were involved in.

After some years in the house in Centerville they became more involved in the horse business starting El-Glenn-Ti Arabians.  Tiffany their daughter rode in all kinds of local horse shows as well as many national shows. They had multiple horses boarding in their barn over the years.  During this period of time they traveled to many places while competing in Arabian Horse Shows.

Elaine worked in different occupations.  Years ago she worked during the Utah Legislature sessions in secretarial duties.  She worked at the original Dick’s Market in Centerville as a cashier.  She was employed at the Wight House in Bountiful.  She sold Avon Beauty products for many years helping to support 3 sons on missions.

Elaine is preceded in passing from this life by her husband Glenn, her parents and a half brother Kent Jensen.  She is survived by her children, Greg (Joyce) Oman, Mike (Merri Jo) Oman, Kirk Oman and Tiffany (Jay) Burton and 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
