Edna Ethlyn France Harker, a woman of profound faith, diligent service, and boundless love, peacefully passed away on June 11, 2025 in Salem, Oregon. Born on November 13, 1930, in Centerville, Utah, Ethlyn was a cherished daughter of Phillip Marlin France and Edna Isabelle Rushforth France. As the youngest child in the family, she adored her older siblings, Charles “Charlie,” Richard “Dick,” and Marleen.
Ethlyn graduated from Davis High School in 1949, where she played saxophone in the marching band and participated in the Pro Schola Club. Soon after graduation, she began working at Hill Field Air Force Base. Her life’s journey took a beautiful turn on September 23, 1949, when she married her beloved Howard Keith Harker in the Salt Lake Temple. Their early married life showcased Ethlyn’s remarkable strength and devotion; when Keith was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ethlyn continued her work at Hill Field, diligently supporting him in his service.
Upon Keith’s return, they embarked on their most cherished endeavor—raising their four children, Marlin, Robert, David, and Ann. Ethlyn poured her heart into nurturing her family, instilling in her children essential skills that would guide them throughout their lives.
Ethlyn enjoyed doing many things including canning, sewing, and handicrafts, especially crocheting. She also possessed a remarkable culinary talent, famously earning the nickname “Casserole Queen” for her ability to transform a few humble ingredients into an extraordinary family meal. She could create a feast for a crowd with just a few minutes notice!
Over the years, Keith and Ethlyn built a life together, residing in various communities including Centerville, UT, Ely, NV, Danville, CA, and ultimately settling in Eugene, OR to raise their children before moving to Salem, OR in their older years.
Ethlyn’s legacy of faith, resilience, and love will continue to inspire and bless her family for generations to come. She leaves behind her four devoted children, Marlin (Cindy) Harker, Robert (Robin) Harker, David (Angela) Harker, and Ann Unger, seven beloved grandchildren, and thirteen precious great-grandchildren. She lovingly referred to these great-grandchildren as her “Teenies.”
