Earl Roy Atwood was more than a father, he was our guide, our protector, our biggest supporter, and often the one responsible for the loudest laugh in the room. With heavy hearts, we share that he passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 8:20 a.m. His life was defined by faith, service, hard work, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
Earl was born on August 10, 1941, to Albert and Milda Atwood. He lived a full and meaningful life marked by honor, service, and devotion to family and faith. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he exemplified courage, discipline, and commitment. As a proud Recon Marine, he served with honor and carried the values he learned in the Corps throughout his life. Once a Marine, always a Marine and Earl never let anyone forget it.
Earl graduated Cum Laude from Long Beach State University, an accomplishment he was proud of, though he was far more likely to tell a funny story than brag about his achievements.
Following his military service, Earl continued a life dedicated to serving others through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served a mission in London and later fulfilled many callings throughout his life. Through his kindness, testimony, and willingness to help, he touched countless lives. His faith was a guiding light, and he spent his days striving to uplift and strengthen those around him.
Above all else, Earl was a loving husband and father. He shared a deep and abiding love with his sweetheart, Diane, who preceded him in death. Their marriage was built on devotion, partnership, and love. He also carried in his heart the memory of his beloved son, Shaun, whose passing was a loss he felt deeply throughout his life.
Though Earl experienced profound sorrow, he remained steadfast. He met life’s challenges with resilience, compassion, and a quiet strength that inspired everyone around him. He will be remembered for his warm heart, dependable presence, and the love he gave so freely to family and friends.
And then there was his sense of humor.
Earl had a gift for making people laugh. He always seemed to have a joke ready, a witty comment, or a perfectly timed one liner that could lighten even the heaviest moment. Whether you laughed because he intended you to or because he caught you off guard, he considered either outcome a success. His humor was one of the many ways he showed love, and those laughs will echo in our memories for years to come.
Earl is survived by his children: Bryce (Joanna), Brenda (Chad), Jeremy (DeeAn), Ryan (Melissa), Dustin (Kirsten), 23 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He now joins his beloved wife Diane and son Shaun in a joyful reunion.

“Semper Fidelis” — Always Faithful.
It was more than a Marine Corps motto to Earl. It was the way he lived his life, as a Marine, a disciple, a husband, a father, and a friend. We will miss his wisdom, his strength, his example, and especially his laughter. His legacy of faith, service, love, and humor will continue in all who were blessed to know him.
