It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Mae Sorensen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Donna was born on May 3, 1933, in Tetonia, Idaho, to James Don Fullmer and Elva Rose Beard Fullmer. She passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, at the age of 91.
Donna spent her early years in Tetonia, attending a one-room schoolhouse until the 8th grade. She graduated from Driggs High School in 1951. Shortly after, she married Farrell N. Lloyd and moved to Ogden, Utah, where she dedicated her life to raising their three children. Though their marriage ended in divorce, Donna’s resilience and grace never faltered.
She later married Bill Baker, and though this marriage also ended in divorce, fate had a special plan for Donna. After more than 50 years, she reunited with her high school sweetheart, Daniel Sorensen. Donna and Dan shared a deep and enduring love, spending 15 joyful years together in Ivins, Utah, until Dan’s passing at the age of 92. After his death, Donna returned to the Ogden area, where she found comfort and joy in the close company of her family.
Donna worked for the IRS in Ogden until her retirement, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various leadership roles, including positions in the Junior Sunday School and Relief Society including Relief Society President, where she made lasting impacts on her community.
Family was the cornerstone of Donna’s life. She loved fiercely and found great joy in family gatherings, especially those centered around the family piano. A talented pianist, Donna was almost entirely self-taught, a testament to her determination and love for music.
Donna is survived by her brother Ron Fullmer (Kay), sister Delores Davis (late Bud), daughters Sherry Chambers (John), Lana Sandman (late Gene), and son Farrell Lloyd (Robin). She also leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren Tamara Erickson (Dal), Jody Page (Jackie), Heidi Mwanthi (Joe), Angela Actkinson (Mike), Chelsea Lloyd, Whitney Lloyd, and Trent Lloyd, as well as 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Dan Sorensen, her parents Don and Elva Fullmer, and her brothers Jim Kneedy and Gene Fullmer and grandson Rhett Sandman.
A memorial service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held at the Tetonia, Idaho ward chapel on Sept. 21 at 11 Am.
