Donna and Kent Cullimore, 80 and 83 respectively, both passed away within hours of each other on February 19/20th, 2025, due to complications from the effects of old age; still together, even in death, since their mid-teens. They are survived by their four sons (and spouses), Steve (Soraya), Randy (Kathryn), Travis (Jennifer), and Shane (Sarah), and 15 grandchildren.
Sidney Kent Cullimore was born in Provo, Utah, February 14, 1942, to Sidney and Ilah Thorne Cullimore, who preceded him in death, along with Kent’s sister Pat Howell and brother Stan Cullimore.
Donna Mae Smith was born in Ely, Nevada, May 9, 1944, to George and Bernice Hermansen Smith, who preceded her in death, along with her brother Robert (Bob) Smith. Donna is survived by her sister Marianne Riddle and brother Lars Smith.
Kent and Donna both graduated from Provo High School (class of '60 and '62, respectively), where they dated and fell in love. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 22, 1963, shortly after Kent returned from serving an LDS mission to the Eastern Atlantic States ('61-63). Both attended BYU and moved to North Salt Lake after Kent graduated in Accounting (class of '67). They built a home and moved to Centerville, Utah, in 1972 and remained there for 53 years until their recent passing.
Kent served in the Army reserve for 8 years and worked for 38 years at Hill Air Force Base as a civilian employee until his retirement in 2005. Donna was a travel agent for many years, managing several offices in Bountiful and Ogden for Faldmo Tours Morris Travel, retiring in 2003.
Following their retirements, Donna and Kent served a mission for the LDS Church in Japan for 18 months ('06-08). Both were passionate about supporting their sons in all their activities (scouting, little league, high-school sports and activities), with Kent having never missed a single game or scout camp in which his sons participated. Donna earned an honorary Eagle Scout award along with each of her sons. They became fixtures at high-school softball, football, and basketball games supporting their grandkids.
Kent was an avid sports fan right up until the end, practically setting his watch by every BYU football and basketball game. He still loved the feel of “real” newspapers, was proud to have never had a mobile phone, and was a meticulous recorder of everything about everything in his voluminous collection of “Things To Keep Track Of” journals. Yes, he can tell you what day they found a quarter in the sofa that gave them enough money to buy an ice cream cone in 1970.
Donna was an active non-watcher of BYU sports (no bad juju) and after playing 18 holes with a putter in college, was an active non-participant, but huge supporter in all her sons’ and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors. After successfully petitioning to have metal instead of wood light posts installed in the neighborhood, she was asked and served on the Centerville City Council for several years. She also served as LDS Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s president, despite working full-time for many years.
Both took the opportunity to travel the world and to wherever their family was located, coast-to-coast or abroad, and even left their teenage sons at home on several trips, when only now do they probably realize what actually happened at home while they were gone. Theirs were lives well lived, full of service, and always doing the best they could with whatever they had, guided by their unwavering faith, love for neighbors and family, and desire to stay together, even in death.
A celebration of Donna and Kent's lives and Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 1475 North 50 East, Centerville, Utah 84014. Friends and family are all welcome, with an Open House at the Chapel starting at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the service. Both will be cremated, and their ashes placed in memoriam at the wall in the Centerville City Cemetery.
A live feed of the Memorial Service will be available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=5r0rnp0Kylg.
