June 18, 1926 - July 9, 2021
Funeral Home Russon Mortuary Bountiful
Ray Alexander passed away on July 9, 2021 at the age of 95. He was born on June 18, 1926, the son of Rudgar M. Alexander and Ada Louise Larsen. He was the only son, and had a younger sister JoAnn (James) Judd. He grew up in Magna, Utah, and graduated from Cyprus High School. He always spoke fondly of his years in Magna and associations from Cyprus.
He married Carolyn LaVon Hebdon on May 8, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived for 42 years in Bountiful, Utah where they raised their family and made many friends.
He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in business. His professional career was spent mostly at Hill Air Force Base. With over 40 years of government service, he retired as Deputy Director of Distribution.
After retirement he served as a docent for the Utah Museum of Natural History, and enjoyed conducting tours at the museum and presenting earthquake preparedness presentations to school children along the Wasatch Front.
His membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was important to him, and he enjoyed serving in the Bountiful 13th Ward.
He loved being outside, hunting, fishing, camping and working in the yard. He collected rocks, and became proficient at lapidary and silversmithing, and made beautiful jewelry.
He was a lifelong learner, and even when macular degeneration stole much of his eyesight, he continued to read with magnifying glasses, and listened to books and magazines on tape. He paid attention to detail, and could organize anything. He was blessed with a sharp mind and an excellent memory. He never met a stranger. He loved to tell stories, and was known as the “the story prince” to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a still born son, parents, sister, grandson (Alex Anderson). He is survived by his children, David (Mary), Janet (LaDon) Anderson, and Gary (Jolyn), as well as 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
