It is with great sadness, but with loving admiration, that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Donald Franklin Kattelman. On August 12, 2026, after a lifetime of dedicated service, Don was called to return home.
Don was born on January 21, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William and Elva Kattelman. Throughout his life, he maintained a deep passion for hard work, faith in God, athletics, geology, aviation, service, and, most of all, his family.
Don grew up in Ohio, where he was raised to value hard work and faith in God. Throughout his childhood, he was active in youth organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Ohio State University, where he lettered as a gymnast. It was during his time at Ohio State that he met the love of his life, Kenna Sorenson, while traveling to Ephraim, Utah, on a school geology trip. Don and Kenna were later married and began their life together.
After graduating from Ohio State, Don went on to earn a master's degree in geology from Brigham Young University. He dedicated his career to providing for his family and applying his education through his work in civil engineering and inspection. He also had a deep passion for aviation and became a private pilot and aircraft owner. Although he eventually made the difficult sacrifice of giving up aviation in order to provide for his family, he always held a special place in his heart for flying.
Throughout his life, Don's love of geology remained a constant. He also found great meaning in serving his fellowmen through dedicated church service, including callings in the Young Men's and Scouting programs.
Among Don's greatest attributes was his love and devotion to his family. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A man of integrity, he truly lived the teachings of the gospel and blessed his family and those around him through his faithful service, example, and love.
At the age of 87, Don was called to return home to the presence of his beloved Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. There, he was reunited with his beautiful wife, Kenna, and his precious daughter, Laura.
Don is survived by his forever-grateful sons and their families: Michael and Loisanne Kattelman, Mark Kattelman, and Brian and Wendy Kattelman; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
His legacy of faith, service, hard work, integrity, and devotion to family will live on in all who were blessed to know and love him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m., prior to services. Interment- Ephraim City Cemetery.
