Donald A Heap passed away in his home of 57 years in Bountiful, Utah on May 11, 2023. He was 88 years old.
Don was born on March 4, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Alden and Grace Heap. He married sweetheart Maradene Besendorfer in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1958. He loved to take her to the outdoors where they enjoyed rivers, streams, animals and mountains throughout their lives. Don began working for Sperry November 1957 as a lifelong job in drafting, even as the company changed names around him multiple times.
Don found happiness with his family, especially his 6 grandsons and great-grandchildren. He was their Papa, and he made their holidays and parties special without fail. Donald and Maradene organized many vacations with their grandkids, such as trips to Disneyland and tours of all of Utah's national parks. It was a rare weekend that the grandchildren didn't see their "Papa and Hunny."
Even in his final years and challenged by poor health, he was dedicated to remaining faithful in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Don was deeply interested in genealogy, and spent many hours researching his family tree. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and faithful heart.
Don is survived by his children, Donald Cary Heap and Janell Cobbley; siblings Launa Herrmann and David Heap; grandchildren Wesley, Shane, Carson, Jacob, Bennett, and Parker; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Maradene; parents Alden and Grace Heap; sister Barbara Heap; daughter Jillynn Heap Stapley.
A viewing will be held at the LDS meetinghouse at 1540 N 400 E Bountiful, UT 84010-2600 from 9:30-10:30 AM, with a funeral at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 19, 2023.
Services will be streamed live on Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and this obituary page.
