Donald Douglas Gard (Doug) passed away peacefully Friday May 1st 2026. Doug was born July 20th 1954 to Donald E Gard, and Shirley West Gard at the Tooele Army Depot in Tooele, Utah. Doug spent his formative years traveling the country and the world as his father served in the United States Air force. Doug graduated from Cabrillo Senior High School in Lompoc, California in June 1972. The family would later settle in Kanesville, Utah.
After settling in Kanesville, Doug went to work for JG Read and Brothers in Ogden, Utah. There he would meet the love of his life Pamela Rogers Gard, they were married on March 26th 1976. Shortly after they were married Doug followed in his fathers footsteps and enlisted in the United States Air Force Security Forces on May 5th 1976. After basic training he was deployed to Kwangju South Korea for one year, before being stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Mountain Home, Idaho. Doug spent four years in the Air Force, and then continued his service with the Roy City Police Department in Roy, Utah becoming an officer with the department in October 1981. Doug loved being a police officer and loved to serve the community he worked for. He would retire at the rank of Captain after nearly 23 years of service in 2003.
Doug and Pam settled in Roy, Utah and had two sons, Josh and Justin, who he adored. He taught them hard work and compassion, and loved spending time with them. Doug loved sports and would coach his sons little league baseball teams. Doug was very passionate in all he did especially coaching, and may hold the record for little league ejections from games as a coach. Doug always had a dog by his side from a young boy to his passing. He had a way with dogs and they were a comfort for him and he loved them all. While he didn’t have a favorite son, or one he would admit, he did have a favorite dog Duke a black Labrador Retriever. Doug became a grandfather in 1997 and would go on to have 7 grandkids who were his whole world. His grandkids brought out the softer side of Doug and they all adored him. Doug loved to be outisde and especially enjoyed working in his yard which he took a lot of pride in. Doug could never sit still and was always moving even up to his passing. Doug will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him, but he has left a lasting impression on all of us.
Doug is survived by his wife Pam, sons Josh (Hannah), Justin (Shiloh), his grandchildren, Bailey (Brandon May), Tagen, Mylee, Cade, Luke, Cassidy, Nox, and one great granddaughter due in July, Hallie Dee May.
