DeAnne Hanson Horsley

March 19, 1937 — February 12, 2024

DeAnne Hanson Horsley, our loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, at the age of 86 following a brave and valiant battle with cancer.

DeAnne was born on March 19, 1937, the second child of Clinton V. Hanson and Edith Dayton Hanson in Montpelier, Idaho.   It was there that she spent her youth with her family including a brother and three sisters, graduating from Montpelier High School.

In 1956 she married Gary E. Horsley, and together they had four children, three daughters and a son.  They later divorced, and she remained single the rest of her life.

DeAnne began a career in the banking industry after high school, a career that served her well as she raised her children.  She was a valuable asset at each banking institution in which she worked.  She started out counting money in that first bank and eventually rose to the position of vice president before retiring after nearly 40 years of service.  She belonged to many professional associations related to her career field and served for a time as the president of the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Bank Women. Her employment gave her many opportunities to train, speak, and travel.

DeAnne was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served honorably in many callings.  Her willingness to serve and her loving kindness were among her greatest character traits.  Her home was often a place of refuge for those down on their luck, or who just needed a place to land for a time.  She always had a spare room, a warm heart, and a listening ear. She was a people person and served for 20 years in the Bountiful Temple, and over 8 years on Temple Square and in the Conference Center hosting, ushering, and giving tours.

She is survived by her three daughters, Allison (Jon) Stromberg, GariLyn (Robert) Lundstrom, and Denise (Keith) Bates, 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her son Clint (Suzanne Rogers).

DeAnne lived a wonderful life, always giving, always loving.   She was a great example to all who knew her, especially to her family—her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews who she loved liked her own.  She will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank the many kind and competent hospice personnel who helped care for her throughout her last months, especially Kaylie Cole her CNA, and Deana Stark her nurse, both with CNS.   They often went above and beyond in serving DeAnne and became her valued friends.
