David Nicolas Welch

Apr 4, 1936 — Jul 13, 2026

West Bountiful, UT

David Nicolas Welch, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, departed this world and was reunited with his wonderful wife on July 13, 2026. Dave was witty and generous with an engaging laugh and an abundance of wisdom which he frequently shared to the delight of all those who knew him. Born on April 4, 1936, in Logan, Utah, to Wilford W. Welch and Ruby Jane Parker Welch, he was the youngest of five children.

Dave had a strong work ethic, a curious mind, and a deep love for learning that lasted throughout his life. He spent a summer digging and pounding in fence posts for the railroad to pay his tuition at Utah State University, where he graduated with a degree in economics.

While pursuing advanced education, he was recruited to serve in the Army Security Agency (ASA) and was granted top secret clearance. Dave served his country in Korea and later at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. During the Cold War, he was involved in international intelligence analysis. Later, Dave worked as an investigator with the federal government and was involved with civil rights investigations in the South.

During his military service, Dave married the love of his life, beautiful Beverly Floyd. As the family grew, Dave started a new, more family-friendly career as a real estate broker in Bountiful, Utah. Dave and Beverly raised four children, in a home filled with music, pets, and a sense of adventure. They were true partners in a life built on devotion and faith.

After retirement, they settled in West Bountiful, where Dave continued to serve his community and find new interests and hobbies. He and Beverly were thrilled to serve together in the England, London Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They loved the English people and formed many lasting friendships.

After Beverly’s passing, Dave carried her memory with tenderness for the remaining fourteen years of his life, living each day in a way that honored their bond and commitment to the Gospel. Dave dearly looked forward to their eternal reunion.

Dave loved fishing and seemed to be happiest when he was standing in a stream or fishing from his boat. He loved the outdoors and taught his children to love and respect nature. In his later years, he enjoyed making knives, and created many walking canes and hiking sticks, each one reflecting his life experiences, historical events, poetry, and his love of nature. He loved to share these with others and tell the stories recorded on each piece of wood.

In recent years, he could be seen zipping by on his bike along the bike trails around his home, often putting in over 30 miles a day. He kept his trusty hand saw in his pocket, just in case he found the perfect stick for a new project. Though his canes (he always called them sticks) could bring top dollar in an auction (over $500), he delighted in giving them to special folks who crossed his path.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his cherished wife, Beverly. He is survived by his children: Jim (Annette) Welch, Lori Wilson, Kristine (Brett) Wilcox, and Julie (Steve) Stuehser; along with 14 grandchildren and 23 great‑grandchildren.

Dave leaves a legacy of faith that will continue through generations. His example reminds us that enduring happiness comes from loving God, serving others, honoring family, and keeping sacred covenants. While his presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the promise of the resurrection and the knowledge that families can be together forever through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the ordinances of the Holy Temple.
