Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather David LeRoy Tengberg passed away on Sunday November 16th, 2025 in Salt Lake City. He was surrounded by loving family at the time of his passing. David was born on October 29th, 1943 in Salt Lake City. He was born to loving parents, Roy and Shirley Tengberg. He recently celebrated his birthday and was 82 years old at the time of his death.
David was raised in Salt Lake City, and attended East High School. As a youngster, he loved playing little league baseball for many years growing up. While in high school, his family moved to northern Virginia, and David graduated from McLean High School. David then began his higher education at George Washington University in Washington D.C. He later transferred to Ricks College (now BYU-Hawaii) in Idaho. He completed his formal education at B.Y.U. in Provo, Utah. While there, he was active in Sigma Alpha Epsilon social unit. As David was completing his education at B.Y.U., he faced being drafted by the military during the Vietnam war. David opted to join the Air Force and served his country honorably for four years. He was a proud veteran, and loved his country. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for most of his tour of duty. While at B.Y.U. and before entering the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life, Jacqueline Kay Warner. They were married on a beautiful sunny day on January 26, 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed a 60 year love affair together.
They were both most happy when they were together. Jacqi taught school in Draper, Utah during David’s last year at B.Y.U. Together they moved to Texas to begin his military experience. It was the first of many moves for Jacqi, David, and their family. When David was honorably discharged from the Air Force, he began a very successful career in the insurance industry, working as an executive with Traveler’s Insurance. As David advanced in his career at Traveler’s, it necessitated the family moving to various new cities where David moved up in the executive management of the company. They first moved from Texas to Los Angeles, California, then to Orlando, Florida, Hartford, Connecticut, Miami, Florida, and finally back to Los Angeles. There he served as the claims manager over a wide area including Orange County, L.A. area offices, and other offices including those in Arizona. He ultimately retired in July of 1997.
At that time the family moved to Bountiful, Utah where they have resided until David’s passing.David and Jacqi were blessed with five children. John-David (Jennifer), Gregory (Deborah), Kristopher (Melissa), Jennifer Wall (Nathan), and Jeffery (Ashley). Together they have 23 grandchildren, and a growing number of great grandchildren. David was the loving partriarch of his family, and he honorably fulfilled that role with integrity, love, compassion, patience, and kindness. He tenderly cared for his beloved wife Jacqi during the past several years as she struggled with health challenges, even as he dealt with his own at the same time.
David loved being involved with his children’s activities as they grew up participating in sports, cheer leading, and church activities. David was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Within himself he had a strong testimony of the mission and Atonement of the Savior. This was reflected in how David lived his life and treated others. He enjoyed reading about and studying the gospel of Jesus Christ. David served as a Bishop in Florida, and on the High Council in Los Angeles.
After retirement, David and Jacqi served two full time missions for the LDS Church. The first was in Williamsburg, VA. Later they served at a rehabilitation hospital in Bountiful, Utah. David served two additional missions at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City utilizing his claims management experience. He also served in the Bountiful Utah Temple.
David enjoyed playing golf, doing genealogy, and photography. We are all grateful for his loving influence in our lives, and look forward to the day when we are all reunited again. We take comfort in knowing he is rejoicing in his reunion with loved ones on the other side of the veil, especially his beloved son Kris.
We would like to thank the Elevation Hospice for their kind devotion to our husband and father. We also appreciate the City Creek Post Acute care facility. Their diligence and kindness is much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the LDS Church missionary fund, or the Perpetual Education Fund. This was David’s wish.
