David Clinton Jorgensen passed away on April 26, 2026 in Murray, Utah, at the age of 70 after a long and determined battle with prostate cancer and kidney failure. He was born on July 24, 1955 in Long Beach, California, to Clinton Olsen Jorgensen and Margaret Alberta Brown. He was their youngest child and only son.
David grew up in Southern California and Utah, graduating from Brea-Olinda High School in Brea, California, in 1973. He attended Santa Ana College in California, and worked for many years as an electronics technician and as an assembler.
In 1975 he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, for technical training as a ground radio communications equipment repairman, then at George Air Force Base near Victorville, California, for the remainder of his enlistment.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended Seminary and Institute classes, and excelled in both. His favorite church assignment was serving as ward temple coordinator in his singles ward. Another favorite was being asked to work on the name-extraction project in his stake; while living in a family ward he enjoyed being a substitute teacher for the children's classes.
Later he began studying the works of various church leaders and prominent educators, including Truman Madsen and Hugh Nibley.
He was always interested in cars and wanted to be able to diagnose and repair his own vehicles, so he took automotive classes and studied hard to learn the material and concepts.
In decision-making, large and small, David was a big believer in first determining whose decision it was to make, rather than barging ahead with his own ideas. He was considerate, respectful, and gracious, always willing to lend a helping hand. His kind heart and tender compassion extended to both people and animals. He had a lot to give and he gave it freely.
David had great insight and once summed up a thought by saying, "Following is how we learn; leading is how we progress."
Survived by his sisters Margaret Ann Rankin and Rula Mary Sargent, stepsisters Lynda (Mark) Purcell and Judy Herman, as well as three nieces and one nephew.
Preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Betty Jorgensen, sister Carol Cottam, and brother-in-law Mike Rankin.
