David Howard Sundstrom, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He was born to Joseph Howard Sundstrom and Helen Marjorie McBride on September 19, 1939, in Fillmore, Utah. David spent his formative years in Millard County where he learned the value of hard work by doing daily chores on the family farm with his stepfather, O.J. Rogers. After a standout football career playing center for the Millard High Eagles, he joined the United States Air Force where he honorably served our country for four years.
David made the best decision of his life on October 29, 1962, when he married Margaret Jane Booth. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple in June 1964. Together, they settled in Woods Cross, Utah, where they built a life and raised their four children. David was a fixture of the Woods Cross community for over 50 years, known by neighbors for his deep faith as a member and local leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
David took immense pride in his church callings, his career at Hill Air Force Base, and his family. He was a lifelong BYU Cougar fan and a fixture at Lavell Edwards Stadium for years. He also enjoyed his role as a grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandsons, Spencer, Perry, and Evan, and was delighted to welcome his granddaughters, Valerie and Elizabeth, into the family. He spent his final years at Creekside Senior Living, where he loved to play Bingo, Rummikub and all sorts of card games with the other residents.
He is survived by his sons, John David (Kim) and Stephen (Jill); his sister, Patti Anderson (Lynn); and his five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, who passed away in 2020, and his two daughters, Valerie Beilfuss and Kelly Richardson. Both daughters were born with Cystic Fibrosis and passed away as young adults. This profound loss deeply affected him, and over the past few years, he spoke frequently about finally being able to see his wife and daughters again.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Russon Mortuary located at 295 North Main St., Bountiful, Utah. A public viewing will take place at the mortuary from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., prior to the commencement of the services.
