David Mark Hilfiker, 52, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a tremendous void in the lives of his friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. David was born on May 6, 1974, to Carolyn May Perry and Gary Dean Hilfiker in Salt Lake City, Utah.
David was a man whose presence could brighten any room. Known for his quick wit and endless collection of dad jokes, he had a remarkable gift for making people laugh. Whether through a clever punchline, a playful story, or a perfectly timed joke, David brought joy to those around him and reminded everyone not to take life too seriously.
Beneath his humor was a heart full of kindness and generosity. David was the friend who would show up when someone needed help, offer support without being asked, and stand by the people he cared about through life's challenges. His willingness to help others and his genuine compassion left a lasting impact on countless lives.
To know David was to know a loyal friend, a caring soul, and someone who valued the relationships he built throughout his life. He had a way of making people feel welcomed, appreciated, and loved.
One of the many memories cherished by those closest to him is a final exchange with a dear friend. The last words they shared were, "I love you." While his passing came far too soon, there is comfort in knowing those words were spoken and returned. They serve as a beautiful reflection of the love, friendship, and connection that David shared with the people in his life.
Though David's time on earth was cut short, the laughter he inspired, the kindness he showed, and the friendships he nurtured will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His memory will remain a source of comfort, strength, and gratitude for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
David was a faithful member of the West Valley Transition First Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He participated in worship services, service projects, and was there to help whenever he could. David was furthering his education at Ensign College. He completed 103 Project Management which allowed him to continue towards his online program in this certificate. The six men that completed this continued to meet every week as a study group after their initial graduation on these courses. They all supported each other to succeed in getting the final certificate. He was working on that when he passed. He had an intense desire for learning and making a better life for himself. His Transition Branch family will miss him dearly.
Survived by his dear friend, Decius Duran, who stood by him through his life threatening illness and was a constant source of strength; his brother, Gary; and many beloved friends who he considered family.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2370 South Constitution Blvd., West Valley City.
David will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
