Darrell Cluely Greaves

January 3, 1934 — April 12, 2024

Darrell Cluely Greaves, born January 3, 1934, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024 at the age of 90. Darrell was born to Cluely Greaves and Gayle Fisher in Preston, Idaho. Growing up in Preston, Darrell experienced the joys and challenges of farm life. His father's dedication to farming and tending cows instilled in Darrell a strong work ethic and appreciation for animals. Darrell's childhood was filled with fond memories of riding horses, playing army with friends, and embracing the simple pleasures of rural living. Darrell's early years were shaped by his close-knit family and the bonds he shared with his siblings. His excitement upon the birth of his brother, Blair, and later his sister, LeAnn, reflected his deep love and affection for his family that remained with him throughout his life.

After serving two years in the US army during the Korean War, Darrell met his sweetheart LaVerne Elliott. They were married on December 5, 1964 in West Bountiful, Utah. After moving around the Salt Lake City area, they built their home in West Bountiful, Utah where they remained for 54 years. Shortly after moving to West Bountiful, Darrell began working for Kennecott Copper. He retired after thirty years as an operator in 2001. They had 3 wonderful sons who were their pride and joy - Shane, Tony, and Tyler.
It was while living in West Bountiful that Darrell was able to fulfill a childhood dream of raising pigeons, chickens and pheasants. As his boys got older, they added many animals to their 4H and FFA projects- sheep, calves, rabbits, ferrets, horses, and more. Tony developed a love of horses. It was this love, combined with Darrell's that started a lifetime of chariot and flat track horse racing. Darrell was a proud member of the American Quarter Horse Association and was presented an award in 2002 recognizing his 30 years of dedication to breeding American Quarter horses.

Darrell was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was sealed to his wife in the Bountiful, Utah temple on May 6, 2006. He loved his family deeply and cherished all moments he had with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all who never left him without a giant hug, and telling him how much they loved him.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife LaVerne, his sons- Shane (Shellie), Tony (Aubrey), and Tyler (Natalie), grandkids- Nathan Miller, Shelayne Barrett (Jordan), Brindalyn Greaves, Nick Hjorten, Chad Greaves, Melea Greaves, Tressa Greaves, Ellianne Greaves, Bridger Greaves, and 5 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held from 9-10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024,  at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Bountiful, Utah, 311 North 800 West, West Bountiful. The burial will follow the funeral services at the Bountiful Cemetery.
