In Loving Memory of Darlene Oliekan Cargeeg
February 15, 1939 - September 28, 2026
"Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and forever dear."
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene Oliekan Cargeeg, who peacefully departed this life on September 28, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on February 15, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Julia and Cornelius Oliekan, Darlene lived a life defined by love, kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a caring mother, a loyal friend, and a one-of-a-kind grandmother whose warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew her.
Darlene grew up in Davis County alongside her three siblings Rulon (Bo), Julie, and Robert. She attended Bountiful High School and later studied at Brigham Young University. She was intelligent, outgoing, and kind-hearted. Anyone who knew Darlene knew she loved to chat and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and happiness wherever she went.
Darlene roller skated her way into the heart of Jack Cargeeg while working at Walley’s Burger Bar in Bountiful. The two were married on March 21, 1958, and together built a beautiful life and loving family. They raised three children: their daughter, Robyn, and their sons, Robert and Jon.
Family was the center of Darlene's world. She and Jack created a wonderful home in Centerville, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Some of their family's favorite moments were spent enjoying their beautiful yard, exploring the outdoors, visiting Darlene's family farm in Torrey, Utah, and taking road trips to Lake Powell.
After her children were grown, Darlene opened her own daycare and lovingly cared for many children, including all of her grandchildren. Being a grandmother was truly where she shined. Not only did she somehow manage a house full of energetic children, but she made every child feel loved, included, safe, and special.
Darlene created magical childhood memories that her grandchildren will cherish forever. As they grew older, she never stopped showing up for them. Whether it was prom dress shopping, cheering from the sidelines at games, helping with school carpools, celebrating graduations and birthdays, or assisting with first homes, appliances, and baby cribs, she was always there. She was the definition of an encouraging, generous, and helping hand, and to say her family was lucky to have her is truly an understatement.
She was known for hosting unforgettable Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, where family eagerly looked forward to her delicious homemade favorites. Her gravy, divinity, fudge, and raspberry cake became cherished traditions and unforgettable parts of family celebrations.
Throughout her life, Darlene enjoyed serving in her church library, taking her grandchildren to church, painting custom ceramic decorations, listening to country music, watching NASCAR, and traveling. She especially loved exploring Europe with Jack and embarking on adventurous road trips with her siblings and their spouses.
She also found great joy in her morning visits to RB's Gas Station, where she would gather with close friends over a large Diet Coke and conversations about life. Darlene had a gift for making friends wherever she went and even came to know many members of the Centerville Police Department through her daily visits.
In her later years, nothing brought her greater joy than her great-grandchildren. Their visits, laughter, milestones, and love filled her heart and brightened her days. She treasured every moment spent with them and took great pride in watching her family grow through each new generation.
Darlene is survived by her children, Robyn, Robert, and Jon; her grandchildren Chantel, Brandi, Kelsi, Karli, Kyler, Cortney, Stephanie, Cambree; and great-grandchildren Noah, Braylee, Eliza, Damon, Marcus, Royal, Hudson; her siblings Julie and Robert; and many other beloved family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Cargeeg; her brother, Bo Oliekan; her parents Julia Darlene Oliekan and Cornelius Casey Oliekan.
Her family will forever cherish her warmth, wisdom, laughter, and the countless memories she created. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Until we meet again, Grandma, thank you for the love, laughter, and memories thatwill remain in our hearts forever.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, friends, and loved ones who supported Darlene throughout her life and final days.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Lakeview Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 1640 Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah 84010. Family and friends are invited to attend as we gather to celebrate Darlene's life and legacy.
