Darlene Pearl Delk Bello passed away on May 8, 2026, in her home surrounded by family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, leaving behind a family forever changed by her love.
She came into this world as a surprise blessing to her parents, Audrey Fernstrom George and Levi Delk, in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 1, 1943 — and those who knew her would say the world was better for it. At a young age she lost her father, Levi, but her bond with her mother Audrey was something special — the kind of relationship that showed everyone around them what it truly looks like to love and care for one another. When she was 10, her stepfather Herbert George came into her life and helped shape the warm, devoted woman she would become.
She attended the University of Utah, earning a degree in Elementary Education — a calling, not just a career teaching for a total of 28 years. She gave her heart to the children of the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts, loving her students as if they were her very own.
She met the love of her life, Clair L. Bello, Jr., at East High School. When he first asked her out, she looked at him and said, "That's not funny." He must have been persistent — because on June 12, 1964, she was sealed to him in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised six sons Clair III (Sara), Craig (Cindy), Christopher (Martina), Chad (Katie), Courtney, and Chandler (Hailey). Clair lived to cherish 8 grandchildren before passing away in 2004. Darlene went on to welcome 6 more grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren into the world — carrying him with her in every moment he never got to see.
Her hands were rarely still — she found peace in sewing and crocheting, creating things meant to be given away. Her faith was the thread running through all of it. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings, never seeking recognition, always showing up.
She is survived by Clair III (Sara), Craig (Cindy), Christopher (Martina), Chad (Katie), Courtney, and Hailey along with her 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who adored her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clair, her son Chandler, her daughter-in-law Allison Bello, her great-grandson Kai Mariano, and her parents Audrey, Levi, and stepfather Herbert.
As a family, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the team at Elevation Hospice. They cared for her — and for us — with such gentleness and compassion during her final days. We did not go through it alone, and that meant everything.
