Danae Lila Davis Shill

May 1, 1973 — May 29, 2021

Danae Lila Davis Shill, the personification of joy, returned to the open arms of her beloved Savior on May 29, 2021. She was 48 years old.  Three times she faced the mountain of cancer, filled with hope that it could be moved, and confident in the power that could move it. Twice the mountain was removed. But the third time, still armed with faith, she climbed that mountain straight up to her Lord. While her experience with cancer does not define her, she proved herself triumphant and exemplary as she faced it with grace, poise, hope and courage. She had profound confidence in her Savior and held faithful and strong to the end.

Born to Bart and Kathy Davis in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 1, 1973, she brought light and love from the very beginning. In 1978 her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1991, where she made many friends and delighted in a myriad of activities, the most impactful of which were choir and seminary. Upon graduation she attended Ricks College where she met her best friend and “person”, Talmage Shill. They married August 24, 1994, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They finished their college education at Utah State University, then moved to Richmond Virginia where Talmage attended medical school. Further medical training took them to Mesa, Arizona and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she developed life-long friendships. Finally, they settled in Farmington Utah where they established a warm and welcoming home. While Danae cherished her life experiences and the relationships developed, the crowning joy in each of the places they lived was like the birth of a child. She was magnificent at so many things, but her heart and life were most devoted to her treasures: Braden, Collin, Lila, Caleb, and Emma. She recognized the uniqueness of each of her children and nurtured their individual gifts, arming them with tools that would help them steer their own ships under the guiding direction of a heavenly light. She was a supreme example of faith coupled with hard work, sprinkled with a good measure of flexibility and good humor.

Danae lived a life that was wholly consistent inside and out. Her religion was integrated into her everyday life. She savored the power of words, especially holy words, and she devoured her scriptures daily. She put into action what she believed, serving not only in her home, but in her community and church. She accepted leadership roles, especially in women’s and children’s organizations in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served multiple times as president of Primary and Relief Society groups. She was an effective leader to the whole, and always a trusted friend to the one.  She accepted and embraced all people exactly as they were. She led with a rare combination of power and humility and is loved by so many.

Besides her parents, husband and children, Danae leaves her print upon her siblings Dina Fitzpatrick and Brandon Davis, mother-in-law Nancy Shill, daughter-in-law Miah Shill and her soon-to-be-born first grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Talmage W. Shill, who loved her. It was her request to be buried near him. We are all better souls for having known and loved her.
