Dale Elden Keddington, 74, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 6, 1952, in Salt Lake City, the fourth of seven sons of Mart and Elda Keddington. He lived a wonderful life, marked by dedication to his family and service to his church.
He grew up in Bountiful, Utah, and began working with his dad and brothers at the family service station at an early age. The experience taught him the value of hard work and serving others. He also got into as much trouble as you’d expect in a family of seven boys.
He served an LDS mission in Washington and enjoyed serving the Church in all of his callings, from teaching youth and marriage classes with Shauna to serving as a bishopric counselor and high council member. His faith and love for the gospel were evident in the way he lived his life, serving and loving others.
He married Shauna on November 22, 1974, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he knew it. Well into their marriage, they were often mistaken for newlyweds and his love and respect for her was obvious to everyone and a model for their children. Shauna loved and cared for him for many years, for which her family is very grateful. They had three wonderful children who brought them both so much love, joy, and pride, and everything he did was for the benefit of his family—truly selfless because he felt so blessed.
He graduated from Weber State University with a degree in accounting. He began his career in banking and spent most of it in the finance department for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he took great pride in his work and made many lasting, meaningful friendships.
Dale was known for his love of sports, especially the University of Utah. He held football season tickets for more than 40 years and passed that passion and tradition on to his children and grandchildren. He continued to play softball, basketball, and volleyball into adulthood, until he became the old guy on the team—or realized it was better for his blood pressure and mental health to give them up.
He was even better known as the grandpa who was at every game or activity. His favorite days centered around his grandchildren and everything they were involved in. He went from game to game and performance to performance, always their biggest cheerleader. Any Saturday could easily include at least four different events. With all the soccer, baseball, football, basketball, softball, and lacrosse games—and dance, choir, and play performances—he attended over the years, the number was easily in the thousands.
He loved vacationing with the entire family and made it a priority, creating time together and many special experiences and memories. Disney trips were his favorite. He took the entire crew on multiple trips to Disney World and Disneyland. He also established traditions of yearly trips to St. George or Bear Lake, which his family will cherish forever.
With a father who was a member of the Tabernacle Choir, it was no surprise that music became an integral part of Dale’s life. His musical tastes ranged from John Denver and Carole King to Broadway musicals and church hymns. His kids will always remember Sunday drives to Grandma’s, singing their favorite hymns. Music was in his blood, and that love has been passed down through the generations; it’s still common to find everyone singing in a car full of Keddingtons.
Throughout his life, he had a passion for history and loved reading. He combined the two by making sure to read every historical biography that came out and sharing his insights with interested and disinterested parties alike. In recent years, he looked forward to his Monday morning calls with his best friend, Richard, when they created their own book club.
Dale is survived by his wife, Shauna; his children, Brock (Jennie), Natalie, and Kallie (Brett); and his ten grandchildren, who were his favorite people: Jace, Beckett, Nixon, Leila, Griffin, Talon, Jameson, Gracie, Gunner, and Nash. He is also survived by his brothers Lynn (Peg), Grant (Helen), Blair (Michelle), and Gary (Holly); and his in-laws Brenda and Steve, Randy, Julie, and Terri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mart and Elda; his brothers Alan and Craig; and his granddaughter Gabriella.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at the Woods Cross South Stake Center, 2064 South 800 West, Woods Cross, UT 84087. A viewing will be held there on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Dale will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to drop anything to help anyone in need, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of family, friends, and all who knew him.
