Coyla Lalliss Larson Eden

Jan 12, 1937 — Jul 19, 2026

Bountiful, UT

Our angel mother, Coyla, was born on January 12, 1937, in Mendon, Utah, to Alice and John Wesley Lalliss. She passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 89 from the effects of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

Mom grew up in Cache Valley, Utah, and Buhl, Idaho. She was the second of six siblings. She grew up on a farm where she learned hard work. She helped tend the farm animals and hoed the beets in the back 40. Mom had a lovely soprano voice and sang in several choirs in high school and college.

Mom attended BYU where she met L. Keith Larson. They were married on August 24, 1959, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Education was very important to her, so she did not want to get married before she was able to graduate from college. Mom graduated on Friday and got married on the following Monday. While in Provo, they welcomed their first child, Kaylene.

Dad finished up his education and the little family headed to Shelley, Idaho, for a couple of years. During this time their son, Quinn, was born. Later they moved to Layton, Utah, where Dad began his career in teaching. Taren was born during this time. The family’s final move was to Bountiful, Utah, where Carli and Missy joined the family.

In December of 1976, Dad unexpectedly passed away, leaving Mom a widow with five young children. Mom renewed her teaching license so she would be able to provide for her children and be home when they were. Even after school was over for the day, she could be found correcting papers late into the night and canning fruit and vegetables from her garden to help feed five kids. The majority of her teaching career was spent at Boulton Elementary where she taught hundreds of children for 24 years. She was everyone’s favorite teacher because they knew how much she cared for them.

Mom married a widower, Gerald Eden, on February 2, 1982. He came as a package-deal with six sons, a daughter, and live-in mother-in-law. Mom treated them as her own. She was proud that she was able to help all of her sons earn their Eagle Scout awards and support sons and daughters serving church missions. Jerry passed away in March of 2004.

After retiring, Mom didn’t slow down--always the Energizer Bunny. She could work all of us under the table. She enjoyed everything about gardening and flowers. Her flower beds were always pristine and had to be symmetrical, nothing random. She took classes through Utah State University and earned her Master Gardener’s certificate. She was always willing to share her pruning expertise and gardening knowledge with anyone that asked.

Mom had many church callings over the years. She was the Sacrament Meeting chorister for many, many years. The calling she took most to heart was being a Visiting Teacher. She stayed in contact with her ladies until the very end.

Thank you, Mom. You were an example of faith in Jesus Christ, self-reliance, responsibility, service and kindness to others, and enduring to the end.

Her surviving children are Kaylene and Mark Pugmire, Quinn and Kathleen Larson, Taren and Dan Tyler, Carli and Jim Lewis, Missy Larson, Tim and Kris Eden, Scott and Cecile Eden, Steve Eden, Mat and Heather Eden, and Gretchen Eden. Preceding her in death were Julie Eden, Rick Eden, and Lance Eden. She has 32 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She stated that her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Thank you to friends and neighbors that helped take care of her these last few years, especially the Knight family.
