Claudia Lynette Farmer, 82, passed away July 29, 2024 at her home in West Bountiful, Utah.Lynette was born January 9, 1942 in Murray, Utah. She was the fourth of five daughters and one son born to Claude Russell Bird and Velma Edith Glover. The girls were known as “The Bird Sisters.”
They were Marilyn Margaret, Beverly Dean, Velma NormaLee, Claudia Lynette, and Vivian Kaye. Then years later Russell Steven was born to complete the family.
She grew up during the best years at 145 East 7200 South in Midvale, Utah surrounded by Glover cousins and lots of neighborhood friends. She played in the street with all ages of kids, or in the family yard where there was always a badmitten or croquet game in process.Lynette showed responsibility and dependability very early and became the neighborhood babysitter, later becoming an employee at the local hamburger restaurant. In high school, she entered a special secretarial course and became #1 in the class, becoming the teacher’s prize student, and by January of her senior year, she was employed in a business firm, later working for a law firm until she retired.
Lynette married Clarence Edwin Pollard II on September 20, 1962 in the Manti, Utah temple. They made their home in the Salt Lake Valley where three children were born and raised: Michelle, Clarence Edwin (Eddie), and Steven Charles. Their home was open to all, and many nieces and nephews “spent the night” there.
Lynette later married Hubert (Beau) Farmer, who became a second dad to the children and to Michelle and Dan Weidauer’s children: Danielle and Michael Weidauer. Lynette was always a loving grandmother.
After Beau’s death, Lynette went to Hawaii to live with her brother Russ Bird, his wife Maria, and their two children, Victoria and Charles (Chucky) Bird. She became a grandma to their children while both parents worked, and loved them as her own. After these children were grown, she returned to the Salt Lake Valley where she lived with her daughter Michelle and son-in-law John McCloskey in West Bountiful, Utah. Again she was happy to help nurture Steven and his wife LaTanya’s girls, Sophie Sanae Claudia and Parker Muse Emiko Pollard.
Her favorite hobbies were reading, putting puzzles together, playing cards, and making cross-stitch pictures. Many people are recipients of her excellent cross-stitch pictures. She has a standing card game appointment every other Saturday with her sisters, cousin, daughter, nieces and son – all are welcome.
Lynette is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Velma Bird, her son Eddie, her husbands Clarence Pollard and Beau Farmer, her sister Beverly, her son-in-law John McCloskey, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 311 North 800 West, West Bountiful, Utah 84087.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
