Clara Marie Holyoak Jacobs

March 28, 1938 — January 14, 2023

Clara 'Marie' Holyoak Jacobs passed away in Bountiful, Utah on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the age of 84 surrounded by family. She had been a resident of Bountiful since 1966. Marie was born March 28, 1938 in Burley, Idaho and is the daughter of Joseph Jensen Holyoak and Mary Vonetta Jones. As a farm girl Marie learned to work hard and carried this attribute with her throughout life. Marie had a zest for life and was always cheerful. She was adventurous, fun loving, content, industrious, and faithful. To know her was to love her. She was a graduate of Burley High School and attended college at Brigham Young University and Ricks College. On September 8, 1961, Marie married Alan Clare Jacobs in the Salt Lake Temple. 

Marie was musically inclined. At Burley High School, Marie was involved in the band and played the alto clarinet. She performed with several musical groups including a Clarinet Quartet and a ladies ensemble, The Nonette. Marie had a music scholarship to Brigham Young University where she played the bass clarinet in the Concert Band. After one year at BYU she transferred to Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho where she sang in the Madrigal Choir and Mixed Chorus. She graduated from Ricks College with a two-year associate degree.

After graduation, she worked for a year and a half at the Farmers Home Administration in Idaho. In 1959 Marie began working at the US Bureau of Reclamation in Salt Lake City and continued there until her first child was born. 

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marie served in many callings. After raising a family, she served with her husband in the Micronesia Guam Mission on the island of Chuuk. She also served as a Church Service Missionary at the Humanitarian Service Center in Centerville, Utah and as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple.  

Marie enjoyed snow and waterskiing, boating, camping, gardening, and caring for her family.  She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP).  She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting and artistic events.  

Marie is survived by her children: Bruce (Lynn) of Lanoka Harbor, NJ; Paul (Heather) of Oak Ridge North, TX; Scott (Stephanie) of Farmington, UT; Glen (Marcia) of Sandy, UT; Denece (Bryce) Neilson of Jefferson, GA; and Kyle (Heidi) of Hutto, TX. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Clare Jacobs, parents Joe and Vonetta Holyoak, daughter Brenda Barker (Kenneth), 2 great-grandsons Zander Barker and Luke Jacobs, and her sisters Phyllis Blauer and Doris West.  

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 1250 South Main, Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and again Saturday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
