Cheryl Lynn Catlin

December 23, 1954 — June 22, 2025

Beloved wife, mother, and friend, Cheryl Lynn Catlin passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025 after a short but difficult struggle with cancer.

Cheryl was born in Pasadena, California on December 23, 1954 to Shirley Mae Hammersla and Bennie Fortner. She had five children: Laura, Angela, Cassy, Brian and Devin whom she loved very much and told them often. She loved family, home, and spending time together. Doing simple things and keeping traditions alive were very important to her.

Cheryl and her family met the missionaries and converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in February of 1989. She cherished her testimony, her scriptures, and the temple, willingly served others, and she was always a faithful and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.

Cheryl married her sweetheart, Ross Catlin, June 22, 2004 and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Bountiful Temple on June 22, 2005. She and Ross share a tender love that has grown exponentially over the twenty-one years of their marriage.

Cheryl worked very hard to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Weber State University and lovingly taught her students. It was very important to her to show love and understanding to all students and especially to help them learn and discover who they really were, their divine identity, and their life’s purpose. She had the ability to see the true person inside each person and hoped to share that with the world so that everyone would know how much they truly matter. Cheryl was working on writing several books and found great joy in the writing process.

Cheryl loved gardening, quilting, hiking and being in the mountains, and was passionate about family history work. She spent countless hours researching and finding missing ancestors. Cheryl began a business with her husband helping others to write their own personal history stories to share with their families.

She was welcomed in Heaven by her parents, her grandson Sam, and many loving ancestors. She is survived by her husband, Ross, brother Chris Preuitt (Darcie), sister Bonny (Rod), brother Ray Fortner (Angela), daughters Laura Stout (JD), Angela Hamer (Cody), and Cassandra Jones (Brandon); and her sons Brian Speceiro and Devin Speceiro (Elizabeth), and thirteen devoted grandchildren. Though parted now, her love and legacy will continue!

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1650 South 500 East in Kaysville, Utah, with interment at Kaysville Cemetery immediately following.

The family wishes to thank Laura Smith and Intermountain Hospice, as well as the wonderful members of the Hess Farms Ward for their loving care and compassionate service.
