Charles Edward Coulter

November 28, 1935 — August 2, 2025

Surrounded by loved ones and with his beloved wife Frankie Lynn by his side, Charles Edward Coulter passed away on August 2nd, 2025 just after midnight at his home in Farmington, Utah.

He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 1935 in Buffalo, New York to parents Gertrude Louise Grabau and Rea Carter Coulter. He was the youngest of three boys.

He grew up in Williamsville and Clarence, New York. He loved sports and competed in football and wrestling. He had a likable and engaging personality and was well liked by his classmates.

His New York family - his mother’s side - was a large and closeknit German-American family. His parents divorced when he was a boy and his several uncles took him under their wings. He used to enjoy boating, camping and fishing with them on the Niagara River, Lake Erie and up into Canada as a boy.

He attended college at the University of Arkansas where he earned a degree in geology and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. It was there he met Frankie Lynn Baker, a freshman from Hot Springs, Arkansas. They were married on August 20th, 1960 at St. Mary Church in Hot Springs.

He loved Arkansas. His father’s side of the family came from the southwestern corner of the state, and he and Frankie Lynn made their home in Little Rock where the first four of their five children, Rea William, Andrew David, Julia Ann and Charles Stephen were born.

In 1973, they moved their family to Farmington, Utah where their fifth child, Rebekah Louise was born. Here they would raise their family and spend the next 52 years until his passing.

In 1969, they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a man of deep religious faith and never wavered in his commitment to follow his savior Jesus Christ. He set an example for his children of love, sacrifice, honor, integrity and faith.

He spent most of his career in pharmaceutical sales. Upon retirement, he served a mission with Frankie Lynn for his church in South Texas. Later they served together for years among inmates at the Davis County Jail teaching and in an addiction recovery program.

He was very well read and was an excellent conversationalist. He loved to tell stories and had a vivid imagination. He was warm and hospitable. He had a great sense of humor and loved to gently tease his family and friends. He made everyone feel welcome and even in his last days, suffering from dementia, always wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and in his moments of clarity never failed to let his family know how much he loved them.

He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Dave (David Rea Coulter) and Dickie (Richard Alan Coulter) and by a grandson, Charlie (Charles Anthony Coulter). He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frankie Lynn Coulter who lovingly cared for him until his passing. He is also survived by his five children Rea William (Elizabeth) Coulter, Andrew David (Ivette) Coulter, Julia Ann (Paul) Vassau, Charles Stephen (Luisa) Coulter and Rebekah Louise (Roydon) Nelson as well as 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
