Carolyn Nelson Hyatt

Carolyn Nelson Hyatt passed away March 16, 2020 surrounded by family, at the age of 76. She was born April 20, 1943 to LaVance Page & Norma Arbuckle Nelson.  She married Douglas M. Hyatt on Aug 14, 1964 in the Salt Lake temple and together they had 6 children. To know her is to love her. She will be dearly missed by many.  

Carolyn was wonderful at doing many things but will remembered most as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker, seamstress and friend. She had the ability to take small, simple things and turn them into something beautiful. Whether it was a piece of fabric, an item from the discount store or item from her food storage, she would see it for what it could become and would creatively add her loving touch to turn it into a masterpiece. She did this not only to material objects that decorated her home, or handmade gifts for others, or yummy treats but also to the hearts of those individuals that she touched throughout her life. Through years of tireless efforts that included much sacrifice, many tears, often amongst one physical challenge after another (and an occasional touch of sarcasm or choice word) she set an example of ongoing love and acceptance as she stitched together, mended and lovingly altered the hearts and lives of those she came into contact with.  

She loved to travel, go camping, four wheeling, sit in the sun on a beach with the sand between her toes or be anywhere with family. She shared of her talents while working at Lagoon, where she created costumes that brightened the shows and midway for many years. She served faithfully in many church callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ which was evident in her everyday activities.  

She was one who defied the odds. When someone or a situation told her it couldn’t be possible, she showed them that it could. Though she experienced one physical challenge after another throughout her life, she was an example of ongoing dedication and endurance to the very end. We will miss her greatly but find joy knowing she is happy and without pain, is finally at peace while surrounded by loved ones and know she will be watching over us and guiding us through our life’s journey here on Earth. 

She is survived by her husband and children: Todd (Amy) Hyatt, Gregory (Tonya) Hyatt, Jennifer (David) Whitney, Chad Hyatt and Cami (Shaun) McMillan, 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother: Paul (Carolynn) Nelson, sister: Sue (Ty) Kiisel. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Krista Lee, granddaughter, Hanna, parents and two sisters, Janet Marston and Dianne Barrus.  

Family only funeral services will be held at Russon Mortuary in Farmington, due to current government regulations in relation to COVID-19. Others are encouraged to participate via Facebook live on the Facebook event, “Carolyn Nelson Hyatt funeral”. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 22 from 6-8pm at 1941 North Main Street, Farmington.  We would like to remind everyone that only a limited number of visitors will be greeted at a time.
