1934 Carolyn 2025

Carolyn Bromley Hill

February 6, 1934 — April 29, 2025

Carolyn Bromley Hill, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by her family.

Carolyn was born on February 6, 1934, in American Fork, Utah, to Adair Wootton Bromley and Margaret Green Bromley. She grew up in a loving home where she was involved in many different activities, including helping her family, playing in the school band, and 4-H. A proud graduate of American Fork High School (Class of 1952), Carolyn continued her education at Brigham Young University, where she served as the freshman class secretary.

During her time at BYU, Carolyn met the love of her life, Leo James “Jim” Hill. On June 17, 1953, Carolyn and Jim were married in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a lifelong partnership that was centered on faith, family, and service. Together, they raised a beautiful family, starting in Holladay and later settling in Bountiful, Utah.

Carolyn was a dedicated mother and an active member of her community. She worked as a secretary at Centerville Elementary until her retirement. Her deep love for service extended to many roles, including working with the young women’s program and assisting with numerous girls’ camps. Carolyn’s commitment to family was evident in her attendance at many activities and sporting events, where she cheered on her children and grandchildren.

Her talents were many and varied—Carolyn was a skilled seamstress, loved playing the piano and was an exceptional cook. Her famous homemade gingerbread cookies became a cherished holiday tradition, and summers were never complete without her Rice Krispie treats and pool parties with her grandchildren. Carolyn’s love for reading, the symphony, and the theater enriched her life and she shared her interests with those she loved.

Above all, Carolyn’s life was defined by her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ. She was known for her positive and calm demeanor, providing a steady and peaceful presence for all who knew her. Carolyn and Jim served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. George, Utah, where they found great joy in their service at church history sites and the temple visitor’s center.

Carolyn’s legacy lives on through her children: Jan Whittaker (Scott), Jim Hill (Mary), Jeri Thomas (Mark), Judie Clark (Paul), and John Hill (Izumi); 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her brother Richard Bromley. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her parents, Adair and Margaret Bromley; and her brothers, Robert, Adair, Jess, and Michael Bromley. She was also preceded by her daughter, Jackie Hill.
