Carolyn Talmage Black

Carolyn Talmage Black passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Though she left us far too soon, she lived a remarkable life and was an example to all who knew her.

Carolyn was born on February 22, 1952, in Provo, Utah, to Burton Albert Talmage and Carol Ellen Hanks. She was raised alongside her siblings: Ronald, Diane, and Annette, and spent most of her life in Bountiful, Utah, the community she loved and called home.

After graduating from BYU with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1973, she began her teaching career in Bountiful while living in Salt Lake City. Soon thereafter in 1977, Carolyn met a toilet repair man attending medical school, who soon became her best friend. After sealing the engagement with her bread-baking skills, Carolyn and Craig married in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1978, and together they built a family grounded in faith and love. Preceded in death by her husband, Craig, Carolyn will now be reunited with him after 11 years — just in time to celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary together on September 6.

Carolyn is survived by her three sons: Dan (Kimberly), Cameron (Sarah), and Chris (Jessi). Carolyn cherished her daughters-in-law as though they were her own daughters. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren: Carter, Elyse, Ethan, Emily, Elsa, Ben, and Logan. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her “sweeties”.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carolyn dedicated countless hours to serving others through her faith. She served as Relief Society President, Primary President for both the ward and stake, Young Women’s President, and numerous other callings. She always gave of herself fully and found quiet joy in service.

Carolyn was also a dedicated elementary school teacher who deeply loved her students and cared for them as though they were her own children. Outside of her service and career, she expressed her creativity and love for others through crafting, quilting, and sewing — pouring her heart into every gift she created.

Above all, Carolyn was selfless. She was always willing to help in her own special way, and her family always came first. Her example of quiet strength, unconditional love, and faithful service leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.

Carolyn will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of being loved by her, and we take comfort in knowing she and Craig are together again.

The family will receive visitors from 9:45-10:45 AM MDT, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Woodland Hills Ward (640 South 750 East, Bountiful, UT 84010). Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM MDT. Interment at Bountiful Cemetery (2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, UT 84010).
