Carol Uarda Hadley

Carol Uarda Lechtenberg Hadley passed away peacefully November 30, 2025, at the age of 89 with her family by her side.

Born February 8, 1936, in her family home in Central, Idaho, Carol was the daughter of Alvin Karl Lechtenberg and Connie Hortense Lloyd. She was the youngest of 5 children. Her sister Althea died when she was six weeks old with pneumonia. Carol had twin siblings, brother Alvin Kay and sister Shirley May, and sister Nettie Joy. Carol grew up in a wonderful home with loving parents and siblings where she learned the importance of hard work. The homemaking skills Carol learned and cultivated in her youth became a signature strength throughout her life.

Carol graduated from Grace High School in 1954. She loved being a member of the cheerleading team. She participated in band and chorus, playing the flute and the piccolo in both the concert and marching bands. She sang in the school sextet all four years as well as in a trio.

Carol was chosen to be homecoming queen in her junior year. She also spoke at her high school graduation. She represented Grace High School at Girls State in Moscow, Idaho and remembered it as a great learning experience.

After high school Carol attended BYU for one year starting in the Fall of 1954. Her parents sold their farm in Central, Idaho and bought a farm in the Boise Valley that same year. Carol decided to leave school and take a job at the Bank of Idaho in Caldwell, working as a secretary for a loan officer.

In April of 1956 she met Arlin Hadley, who had just returned home from his two-year church mission. They began dating in late summer and were engaged on Christmas Eve of the same year. They were married on June 14, 1957, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They were blessed to raise 4 sons, Steven, Brian, Alvin, and Curtis.

Carol’s priorities were her family, faith, serving others, and tending to her well-maintained home. It was always spotlessly clean, with home cooked meals she often shared with others.

To help supplement the family income, Carol worked with Arlin as an administrator at Wycoff Trucking Company for 2 years in Denver, Colorado. Together they also delivered over 300 newspapers daily beginning at 4 a.m. Carol provided day care in her home for two beautiful little girls over a 5-year period. She especially loved her job as a switchboard operator at Crown Hill Cemetery and Mortuary. In 1987 Carol and Arlin moved to West Jordan, Utah. While there, Carol worked at the ZCMI buying office and later at Spectrum Field Services. Carol and Arlin understood the principle of self-reliance and of hard work in supporting their family.

Carol served in many leadership callings such as Ward Young Women’s President and Relief Society President. Carol and Arlin served an Inner-City Service Mission for 18 months in the West Valley City, Utah area assigned to specific families with self-reliance needs. One of her favorite assignments was serving as the ward organist in nearly every ward she lived in. She enjoyed music and loved playing the piano and her organ. She continued to play her organ up until she died.

Carol is survived by her four sons Steven (Camille), Brian (Susan), Alvin (Stacey), and Curtis (Stacey) as well as 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the entire staff at The Abbington Assisted Living Center in Layton, Utah who cared for Carol in such a loving way. We are grateful for the Hospice staff who made Carol’s final weeks comfortable and peaceful.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday December 8th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2679 South 1000 West, Syracuse, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday Evening December 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 1585 West 300 South, Syracuse, Utah as well as Monday morning from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Carol will be laid to rest at Orem City Cemetery.
