1944 Carol 2025

Carol Ann Bendix Bangerter

December 23, 1944 — September 13, 2025

Bountiful, UT

Carol Ann Bendix Bangerter passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning of Saturday, September 13, 2025, after an 11-year battle with breast cancer. In the days and weeks preceding her death, she was surrounded by many family members and friends.

Carol was born on December 23, 1944, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Bernice Agnes Jasch Bendix and George Andrew Bendix. She was named because she was their Christmas Carol. Her middle name, Ann, was to honor her grandmother, Anna Florence Herod Bendix, with whom she became very close.

Carol spent her younger years in Michigan City attending Catholic school, where they were very strict. In 1955, her family moved to Bountiful, Utah, when she was in the sixth grade. She was such a good student that when she arrived, she had a competition with her teacher on times tables and won! She attended Bountiful High School and graduated at the age of 17 in 1962. She loved her classmates and attended monthly luncheons with the Class of ‘62 Lunch Bunch until she was no longer able.

In 1963, she met her beloved Gene Bangerter when she and a friend ran out of gas. He valiantly came to her rescue. A couple of months later, she got a job working as a checker at Winegar’s grocery store, where Gene was the assistant manager. It took a while, but Gene finally got the courage to ask her out for a date. They got engaged in April of 1964 and were married on July 17, 1964. They were later sealed for time and eternity on July 17, 1968, in the Logan Temple.

Carol and Gene struggled to have children on their own and had to wait six long years before receiving their beautiful baby boy, Kevin Gene Bangerter, through LDS social services adoption. Another four years later, they received a baby girl, Kimberly, to complete their family.

Carol thoroughly enjoyed her children, being a stay-at-home mom, devoting time to her children. She was always involved at their schools, volunteering as much as she could with all of their extra-curricular activities. She loved her children so much, she always put their needs ahead of her own. Kevin and Kim did not realize until later in life how much she had sacrificed for them. They agree that she was the best mom, hands down.

The Bangerter family enjoyed vacations to Disneyland, Lake Powell, and their cabin in Fairview, Utah. Many memories were made at each of these places with family and close friends.

After the kids were grown, Carol and Gene enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel and eventually became snowbirds to Yuma, Arizona. Carol cherished the relationships she made during the 18 winters they were there.

Carol was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, each of which she poured her heart into.

Carol is preceded in death by her father George (1984), her brother Keith (1987), and her mother Bernice (2019). She is survived by her husband R. Gene Bangerter, her brother Larry R. Bendix (Chris), her children Kevin Gene Bangerter and Kim Neerings (Wyatt), her forever daughter-in-law Carol Li, and her four grandchildren: Alyssa Bangerter, Taylor Neerings, Alexis Bangerter, and Caden Neerings.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the exceptional care given to Carol by the compassionate staff of both Utah Cancer Specialists for her cancer treatment and Quality Hospice for her end of life care.
