Bruce Woodward Parkin

November 14, 1931 — February 15, 2026

Layton, UT

Bruce Woodward Parkin passed from this life on February 15, 2026, in Layton, Utah, at 94 years and 3 months. He was born in Bountiful, Utah, November 14, 1931, the youngest of seven sons, to Kimball Mann and Florence Hatch Parkin.

Bruce grew up in Bountiful, attending Stoker Elementary, South Davis Junior High (now Bountiful Junior High), and Davis High School. He started college and then served in the California Mission (when there was only one). He spent much of his time in the Bakersfield area.

Three significant things occurred next: He married Sharral Louise Stott in the Salt Lake Temple. He became a father. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s in accounting.

His first employment was with Restaurant Stores Supply in SLC, followed by Bountiful City, where he advanced to City Recorder/Treasurer. He then worked as an Investment Analyst for Utah State Retirement Fund. He retired in 1988.

Bruce was proud of his pioneer heritage. As a fifth-generation resident of Bountiful, he kept track of family stories, the pioneer homes with their owners through the years, and the grave sites where his ancestors were buried.

He enjoyed traveling for work and pleasure. He took his family on camping trips to California and to Mount Rushmore. He took Sharral on business trips to St. Louis and New York. They went on tours to see the fall leaves in Maine, and the snowy mountains in Alaska. Probably their favorite trips together were to Guatemala and Europe.

He was devoted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was often called to serve as a Clerk, in both Ward and Stake positions. He later served with his wife, Sharral, in the San Diego Mission Office, and at the Mormon Battalion Visitor Center, which he appreciated because of his own connection to the battalion through his mother’s family. Afterwards, they served together as Ordinance Workers in the Bountiful Temple. When they moved to Fairfield Village, he served in the Sunday School Presidency.

Bruce was blessed with a natural curiosity and a desire to participate in everything around him. He was confident he could do anything anyone else could do, and with the help of his wife and children, he accomplished many things, such as finishing the basement, roofing the house, building a garage. He was known for his hard work and perseverance, his attention to civic duty, and his desire to be of service whenever and wherever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Kimball, Orin, Glenn, Wallace, George, and Max; his wife, Sharral; two of his sons-in-law, Stephen Olsen and Alan Rees; and several nephews.

He is survived by his children: Suzanne Olsen, Jean Rees, Cindy Edelman, Reed (Tina) Parkin, Mary (John) Johnson, and Ted Parkin; sister-in-law Yvonne Parkin; twenty-one grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation go out to Fairfield Village and the wonderful nurses and caregivers that helped him so effectively and lovingly in his last days.
