Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. Surrounded by his family, Brett Palmer passed away after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
Brett was born on May 17, 1969, to Roland and ReNeé Gentry Palmer. He was born and raised in Bountiful, Utah and is the fifth of seven children. His brothers and sisters were his best friends and accompanied him on many adventures throughout his childhood.
Brett spent his youth exploring Utah on surveying trips with his father and could name any tree, rock formation, mountain range, or river. He was an active and curious child and enjoyed playing sports and creating his own fun with his siblings. They built ziplines and fireworks, jumped off the roof onto the trampoline, went skiing, and rode the three-wheeler around the “B”. His parents taught him how to waterski behind the houseboat at Lake Powell. In junior high, he bought his first boat with his brothers using money they had saved from running paper routes. His love for the lake continued through his teenage years, where his truck and boat could often be seen in the Bountiful High parking lot, ready for a quick getaway after school. There, he met the love of his life, Jeanine, who joined him on many lake trips.
After graduation, Brett attended the University of Utah for a year, where he made the most of his education by taking classes such as whitewater kayaking, pottery, rock climbing, and bowling. He then served a mission in Edinburgh, Scotland, and loved both the people he met and the opportunity he had to serve the Lord.
After returning home, Brett was reunited with his sweetheart, Jeanine. They were married for time and all eternity on March 23, 1991, in the Salt Lake Temple. Brett returned to school and earned a degree in Finance from the University of Utah and then went on to earn a double master’s degree in business and healthcare administration from Arizona State University. Following graduation, he enjoyed a career in healthcare administration. He later transitioned into other business opportunities, managing and owning several successful ventures. Brett was a natural leader and was loved and respected by all who worked with him.
The joy of Brett’s life was his wife and children. He shared his love for the beautiful Utah landscape with his family and enjoyed camping, hiking, boating, and playing sports. He was a dedicated supporter of his children and spent hours at drill team competitions, piano recitals, baseball games, and tennis matches. He taught his children to work hard, serve others, and do a little more than their responsibility. He loved living life to its fullest and he was willing to try any new activity as long as it had an acceptable work-to-fun ratio. His laughter was contagious and he was cheerful always.
Brett was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived the gospel of Jesus Christ. He loved serving as Elders Quorum President and in various callings with the young men and Boy Scouts. His faith in the Lord was unwavering to the very end, and nothing was more important to him than God and his eternal family. He was constantly looking for ways to serve, provide for, and protect his family and he would do anything for his children without complaining.
Our dad was our rock during the storms of life. We will miss him deeply until we see him again.
Brett is survived by his wife, Jeanine, and six children: Brianna (Jonathan), Tabitha (Aaron), Danielle (Gavin), Samuel, Camille, and Rebekah; and 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by his six siblings: Kevin (Rowena), Lisa (Bruce), Jill (Tom), Kyle (Elise), Lance (LeAnn), and Dallin (Susibel). He is preceded in death by his parents, Roland and ReNeé Gentry Palmer, and nephews, Matthew Madsen Palmer and Zachary Scott Davis.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the physicians and medical team at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their dedicated and tender care. They truly went above and beyond, and treated Brett with hope and compassion.
