Brent Chatfield Russon

When Brent Chatfield Russon passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2025, he was fittingly surrounded by those he had loved and cherished his entire life – especially his eternal companion, Dianne Gibb Russon. Brent was only 75 years old when he rejoined his Eternal Parents, Savior and cherished family members who had passed on before him, including his parents – Milton W. and Karlyn Chatfield Russon. While much too young to leave his mortal path, Brent left a legacy of love, faith, service and community far greater than those few short years should have allowed.

Born May 18, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Brent was mathematically, and in every other way, the perfect middle child – placed neatly between his older brother and sister, Milton Jr. and Kolene (Webb) and his younger brother and sister, Scott and Paulette (Bierwolf). In birth, life, and death, Brent was surrounded by love and family – and he reflected that love outwardly to all he met.

After one year attending Viewmont High School his parents accepted a call to serve as leaders of an LDS mission in Australia. Brent willingly joined them, leaving behind his extended family, friends and an athletic career he was convinced, at the time, would lead to the NFL. But sacrificing everything, including the NFL, for his love of the Savior, was who Brent Russon was.

Brent graduated from high school and completed his own missionary service in Australia, and then returned home to Bountiful, Utah, where he almost immediately, in a combination of accident and miracle, met the love of his life, Dianne Gibb. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 19, 1971, and immediately floored the accelerator in their eternal journey together with mortuary school, welcoming new babies to their family, and serving faithfully in whatever church calling they were asked to do. Family and community defined their life together, and interwoven inextricably, was faith.

Five children – Lonnie (Michael) Wadley, Lori (David) Worthington, Chad (Jennie) Russon, Todd (Jenifer) Russon, Kellee (Erik) Linton were raised in the house he built himself with a hammer, a table saw, and not much else. Eventually, forty-seven grandchildren (and counting) would fill Brent’s life with creative holiday gatherings, dance/sports/music recitals/mission calls/baby blessings/birthdays/etc., etc., etc. Collectively they filled his life with joy.

Brent was truly blessed in his career to work, first with his father, then his brother and finally his two sons and daughter. Throughout over fifty years as a funeral director, Brent incorporated his sincere love of others into his day-to-day work. Throughout their lives, his children would be told by virtual strangers how Brent’s love and compassion in their darkest and saddest times was a profound blessing to them. Truly, for Brent, “mankind was (his) business”.

This love of others in his community extended into his faithful church service – giving his time and love to others in more callings, at all levels, than can be listed. In each, his sincere care for others reflected his profound and unshakeable faith in his Savior.

Brent’s mortal journey has ended – but not his legacy. He leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, creativity, endurance, compassion, hard work, faith and love. He will be desperately missed – but only for a short time until we all rejoin him in the eternities.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Bountiful 53rd Ward, 1350 North 650 East, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and Monday 12:20 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment - Bountiful City Cemetery.
